Blacktown City, located approximately 22 miles west of Sydney, is a vibrant suburban community in New South Wales, Australia. The city comprises 48 communities with a population of 350,000, making it the second-largest city by population in the state.

The Blacktown City Council oversees all city activities, including daily operations, project development, and legislative efforts. Council facilities include the Civic Center headquarters and the Main Works Depot in Rooty Hill, which houses council vehicles, heavy machinery, and serves as an operational base for employees.

Key Control and Asset Management System

To improve asset tracking and prevent the loss of keys, vehicles, and machinery, the Main Works Depot recently adopted a key control and asset management system by Morse Watchmans. The KeyWatcher® Touch system securely stores keys in tamper-proof cabinets, granting access only to authorized persons through verified code, badge, or biometric identification. This system provides full accountability and is managed entirely by Depot administrators.

"We manage keys for at least 500 vehicles and machines here at the Depot, and each of them has at least two to three sets of keys," stated Joe Haddad, Facility Manager of the Main Works Depot. "Without the KeyWatcher Touch automated control and tracking, the job of accurately keeping track of these many keys would be almost impossible."

Efficiency and Productivity Enhancement

The KeyWatcher system integrates seamlessly with the Depot's access control and video surveillance systems

KeyWatcher Touch also supports employee productivity by allowing keys to be returned to any key cabinet on-site. Features such as biometric identification, large touch screens, voice instructions, and status bar guides streamline the key management process. Key reservation ensures personnel can access vehicles or machinery when needed. The system comprehensively tracks key usage and alerts staff about overdue keys through email or SMS notifications.

The KeyWatcher system integrates seamlessly with the Depot's access control and video surveillance systems. This integration is managed through Inner Range's Integriti access control system, allowing streamlined management of user access and synchronization of changes. All alarms and transactions are communicated via the Depot's TCP/IP network.

Customized Solution and Customer Satisfaction

"The single platform for control of our video surveillance, access, and key management streamlines the operation, keeps costs down, and helps to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks," added Mr. Haddad. "We are very pleased with this state-of-the-art system, and it has more than met our needs both today and, we expect, going forward."

The system was developed by Australian Security Technology (AST), with the collaboration of Ryalex Security. David Ishak, General Manager of AST, commented, "Blacktown City Council is a long-time customer, and it was important that we help them solve their key control problems as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. The KeyWatcher Touch provided the solution to the great satisfaction of both the Depot and ourselves."
