The record-breaking attendance at the 2017 industry trade shows was a clear indication of a growing need for and interest in security. While cybersecurity was a main theme, with encryption and automatic-updating technology taking center stage, customized solutions and visible examples of increased manufacturer’s support were also highlighted.

These latter two are interwoven through activities such as manufacturer’s training seminars that highlight the advanced features of VMS solutions, and making easier for a reseller to support the end user with customized solutions, and communicate the true value and benefits of VMS.

Protecting Our Networks

One of the biggest concerns of 2017 was the threat of network and data breaches. OnSSI addressed this challenge with automatic updates of firmware, software, and applications and by incorporating end-to-end data encryption into our VMS solution.

All data transfer between Ocularis Clients and servers and between cameras and servers is fully encrypted. In the overall industry, open-platform VMS solutions continued to be applied to more enterprise-wide business intelligence applications.

By incorporating end-to-end data encryption into OnSSI's VMS solution, network and data breaches became less of a threat

VMS functions and features that save time and money, improve performance, and provide increased levels of cybersecurity that set the trend for 2018. Included on the list are load balancing, automatic updates, randomised recorded databases, and end-to-end security.

Another important industry trend is changing RMR (Recurring Monthly Revenue) models as they pertain to cloud storage. VMS manufacturers will continue adapting to this evolving environment by providing cloud solutions.

Moving Forward From Here

OnSSI has undergone major changes in the past year and is prepared for global market expansion moving forward. We have continued to evolve Ocularis with enhancements that include support for H.265 compression for exceptional image quality, with a reduction of video bandwidth and storage requirements.

Additional features include: Ocularis Client update prompts with automatic deployment options; two-way audio support for multiple camera manufacturers; M2O™ (Mobile-to-Ocularis) live streaming for iOS (in addition to Android); new Ocularis 5 Web functions including complete event management, triggers and toast notifications; and AVI exporting from Ocularis 5 Web and Mobile. Additional enhancements include: Expanded dewarping support; new Smart Camera Drivers; and support for Windows Server 2016.
