AMAG Technology, an access control, IP video and intrusion detection (IDS) solution provider, announces additions to the Javelin range of card readers. The new readers are designed to provide the highest levels of security, be attractive in modern office environments, and are environmentally friendly. The new Javelin card readers are available with and without keypads and have an attractive glossy black and silver design.

“The expansion of the Javelin reader line provides the customer with a range of choices to meet any security need,” said AMAG Technology, Product Manager, David Weinbach.  “The readers include several enhanced features, read a variety of card types, are available with and without keypads and are environmentally friendly.”

The Javelin S874 Smartcard versions support high security contactless smart cards including DESFire EV1 and MIFARE Plus. They also work with the latest government PIV and TWIC cards which make these card readers suitable for even the highest security requirements.

Simultaneously, the S870 125kHz Proximity card variants have been released. Available with and without keypads, they offer similar features and are compatible with all HID and AMAG 125KHz proximity cards.

A multi-color LED light bar and multi-tone audio provide visual and audio feedback when a smart card is presented. The card reader keypads are backlit so office light levels can be kept to a minimum outside normal working hours.

The new readers support AMAG’s unique MCLP bidirectional supervised communications protocol, enabling the standard integrated tamper switch to send tamper alarms to AMAG’s Symmetry software without additional wiring, and providing continuous supervision and reporting of reader online status.

Power consumption for the Javelin is automatically reduced through a unique ‘sleep’ mode, which reduces the LED and keypad backlight brightness after a period of inactivity, until a card is presented. The Javelin card reader has been designed, developed and manufactured at the G4S Technology facilities certified to the internationally recognized environmental standard ISO14001. All packaging is fully recyclable and when the card reader reaches end of life all components of the reader itself are 100% recyclable.

Javelin card readers are compatible with AMAG’s complete range of Symmetry Security Management Systems.
