The Situation
3H Technology (3H) is an innovative information technology company, offering a wide range of products and technical services to Government agencies and corporations, with high profile customers that include the US Navy, General Services Administration (GSA), US Army, Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), and Department of Treasury, as well as local governments and commercial businesses. In recent years, 3H’s business has continued to grow and, in early 2006, the company purchased its own building and re-located to expanded premises.
The Challenge
In their former leased space, 3H had originally used a standard lock and key entry system to manage access. This required a person to physically lock the doors after hours to prevent unauthorized access and also required the last person leaving at night to ensure the doors were properly locked. When the company decided to expand and relocate, shifting assets and personnel from the old leased space to the newly purchased office location would take several weeks—the Facilities Manager would need to oversee and manage both locations for a significant period.
The Solution
3H Technology selected Brivo’s ACS WebService, a Web-hosted access control solution leveraging the power and versatility of redundant, 24/7 data centers to provide total control and real-time visibility of events. Brivo ACS WebService gives users the choice of secure wireless wide-area networking, wired Ethernet connectivity, or Wi-Fi options. With no software to install or servers to set up, given the ability to administer the system over the Web, the system provided a seamless transition during the 3H relocation.
The Brivo Online Access Control System (ACS) secures external and internal doors and manages access for more than 250 3H employees, sub-lease tenants, vendors, and multiple visitors. 3H has installed six ACS4000 and ACS5000 panels, controlling more than 20 readers. ACS WebService allowed Dan Aide, 3H Facilities Manager, and security personnel to manage both the old and new locations during the transition. 3H was impressed with Brivo, and because of the system’s excellent performance, flexibility, and integration potential, they plan to expand the number of doors controlled and possibly integrate video surveillance in the future.

The Highlights
Automatic daily email reports - Facilities Manager Dan Aide set up the system to send him a daily email summarizing the previous day’s access activity. Each morning, the email report is reviewed to check all activity for the previous day: who came in late at night, who was the first person in and at what time, which areas were accessed and when, and valid or failed access events to secure areas.
Storage of historical data - The system provides excellent, accessible data retrievable by a user-specified time-frame. On one occasion, after a theft, Dan was asked to run a report to show after-hours access activity of the affected area during a one-week period, including the specific day and time.
Easy group scheduling - 3H has set up their system to provide specific access to doors and areas at specific times to several different groups—employees, contractors, sub-lease tenants, cleaning staff, delivery companies, and more. Setting up groups with specific areas of access and times of access is as easy as navigating a well-designed website on the Web-hosted system.
Access from any Web browser—anywhere, anytime - The system is accessible over the Web, so it is available wherever there is a Web connection. “I regularly check the system from home,” said Aide. “Once, I saw that someone, a contractor, was in the building who shouldn’t be there.” Aide was able to take immediate action to have the person removed and to change their card to reflect correct access privileges.
Notifications sent to cell phone - Aide has programmed the Brivo system to send text messages to his cell phone when certain events transpire. For example, if someone attempts to access a sensitive area after hours, Aide receives a text message within one minute of the event.
Easy to set up, a snap to pick up - Aide and his team have been able to use ACS WebServiceTM productively and effectively right out of the box. “The system is very easy to learn. I know there is a help function, but even with just the initial training, I’ve probably needed the help function only two or three times.”
