GET Group, an innovative developer of cellphone ID technology with over 20 years of experience in secure government credentials, announced that its mobile driver’s license (mDL) and mobile ID (mID) application for iOS and Android has successfully passed a conformity assessment against ISO 18013-5 carried out by the Identity Management & Security division of UL, the global safety science pioneer.

GET Mobile ID can put an official driver’s license, ID Card, or national ID on a citizen’s smartphone that can be verified contactlessly with a tap or scan and accepted worldwide. The conformity assessment is used to evaluate compliance with global interoperability standards that meet security, privacy, and technical requirements.

Traditional biometric passport

GET’s cellphone credential provides the same level of trust as a traditional biometric passport

Florida is expected to be the first U.S. state to make mDLs available to the public in the new year, but other states are likely to follow suit pending the outcome of in-process pilot programs and other countries are also exploring various implementations of mDLs. Therefore, compliance with interoperability standards will be essential to ensuring that cellphone IDs can be universally used with success - not just verified in their issuing jurisdiction.

With conformity in an open mDL/mID ecosystem, GET’s cellphone credential provides the same level of trust as a traditional biometric passport. In addition, with the cellphone ID solution, those that rely on conventional DL/ID cards can reach higher quality of services. A copy of the press release can be read on the company’s official website.

UL assessment

One can get in touch with Jordan Bouclin of SVM Public Relations if they would like further information or to speak to GET Group about their expectations for the future of the mDL/mID industry; why ISO 18013-5 compliance will be essential to secure and widespread mDL adoption; and what this UL assessment means for GET’s technology.
