Verkada has unveiled its AI-powered deterrence system, aiming to transform the landscape of physical security by proactively preventing criminal activities before they escalate. This new development addresses the limitations of conventional security systems that only respond post-break-in.

Integrating Scene Context for Effective Deterrence

The AI-powered deterrence utilizes cutting-edge vision, audio, and language models to scrutinize video surveillance footage for unauthorized activities like loitering. It then automatically initiates AI-generated messages based on the scene context—such as detailing a person's clothing or precise location—and intensifies deterrence measures over time if the person remains on the premises.

The system's ability to alter the voice with each incident enhances its efficacy in deterring habitual offenders. AI-powered deterrence represents a fundamental shift that we've been driving for our customers: moving from reactive to proactive security, stated Brandon Davito, Senior Vice President of Product and Operations at Verkada. We're delivering on Verkada's goal of building safer, smarter communities in a very real and tangible way when our customers have the ability to stop an incident before it escalates.

Configurable Intelligent Workflows

Organizations can tailor Verkada’s system to start intelligent workflows from detection

Organizations can tailor Verkada’s system to start intelligent workflows from detection, escalating deterrence only when necessary. For example, if a person is detected loitering after hours, the system might initially issue a gentle reminder of property restrictions, followed by increasingly assertive messages that could result in an alarm activation if the individual remains.

This feature allows facilities like car dealerships, schools, and businesses to safeguard assets without causing unnecessary alarms. Advanced AI-powered alerting functionality is also available, allowing notifications to be triggered only under specific, user-defined conditions. This might involve sending alerts for a person crossing a restricted line without protective gear or focusing alerts on known persons of interest. Additionally, Verkada's intelligent alerts can be seamlessly integrated with external applications via webhooks.

Enhancements in Building Entry Systems

Verkada has also introduced AI-driven upgrades to its intercoms and visitor management systems

Verkada has also introduced AI-driven upgrades to its intercoms and visitor management systems, designed to streamline and personalize building entry.

These upgrades include live translation capabilities, enabling real-time communication across languages such as English, Spanish, French, and more. The AI-powered voice directory allows visitors to convey their intent without needing precise details, directing their calls efficiently. Additionally, biometric ID verification adds another security layer by comparing a visitor’s driver’s license image with their captured facial image at entry points.

Automated Incident Summaries and More

To expedite investigations and enhance reporting, Verkada has launched AI-powered incident summaries that generate automatic descriptions for video archives included in incident reports. These developments are part of over 174 new AI features launched by Verkada in the past year to augment efficiency for security professionals.

Key features include the AI-powered unified timeline, which consolidates video events across all site cameras into a map-based timeline, and industry-specific AI-powered alerts that detect relevant activities. Additional enhancements provide a centralized operator view to manage alerts with structured workflows and retail analytics to track queue times, occupancy, and sales conversions.
