The verification confirms that all waste types from ASSA ABLOY are subject to legislative control in either their handling or disposal

ASSA ABLOY UK’s primary manufacturing site has achieved verification from the Carbon Trust that it provides a zero waste to landfill operation.

The Portobello site, based in Willenhall, in the West Midlands, has achieved the verification, confirming that all waste types from ASSA ABLOY are subject to legislative control in either their handling or disposal.

The Portobello site is one of fourteen ASSA ABLOY sites that achieved zero waste to landfill status by 22 December 2015.

Darran Messem, Managing Director for Carbon Trust, Certification, said: “Avoiding landfill is an important first step for businesses wanting to deal more effectively with waste. Achieving this for all waste is not easy, especially for a manufacturing business.

“ASSA ABLOY deserves to be congratulated for successfully achieving zero-waste-to-landfill in fourteen sites across Europe. The Carbon Trust's independent verification of this achievement demonstrates ASSA ABLOY's clear commitment to improving waste management and their sustainability credentials.”

Matthew Daly, UK Business Improvement & Sustainability Manager, said: “We are delighted that our Portobello site has achieved zero waste to landfill verification. Sustainability is integrated in all ASSA ABLOY Group processes, including, innovation, product development, manufacturing, logistics and sales.

“During 2015, we successfully completed our fiveyear sustainability program, which included targets such as to reduce energy consumption intensity by 15% and carbon emissions by 10%. We are now launching a new sustainability program extending to 2020, with increased ambitions.”

The Carbon Trust zero waste to landfill verification is in accordance with the measurement requirements of the Corporate Waste Assessment Protocol.
