| MSE 2014 saw more than 100 exhibiting brands from around the region |
The first Manufacturing Solutions Expo (MSE) 2014 concluded with a bang on 10 October 2014 over three days at Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre. Held as part of the National Productivity Month, MSE 2014 was jointly organised by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) and Sphere Exhibits, a subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings. Manufacturing Solutions Expo 2014 attracted close to 2,500 visitors who networked with more than 100 exhibitors. The Guest of Honour at MSE 2014 was Mr. S. Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry.
MSE 2014 is the first of its kind in Singapore that targets organisations across the entire manufacturing value chain and showcases diverse solutions to help organisations overcome challenges faced in the manufacturing industry. Categorised into six unique segments, these solutions represented the various aspects of the manufacturing value chain: enterprise systems, consultancy, resources management, industrial automation consisting of 3D printing, robotics and precision engineering, transport and logistics, packaging and storage, and upgrading solutions.
Targeted at manufacturing professionals, policy makers and business leaders, the highly anticipated trade exhibition showcased innovative technologies and cost effective solutions to raise productivity within the entire value chain of the manufacturing sector.
Mr. Lam Joon Khoi, Secretary-General of Singapore Manufacturing Federation, said: “The many innovative solutions and applications showcased at the Manufacturing Solutions Expo 2014 were met with great interest from trade visitors. These solutions can provide concrete assistance to companies to improve productivity gains. MSE 2014 spanned across 6,000 square metres with more than 100 exhibiting brands from around the region. These included ABB, Advantech, AEB, Beckoff, Cantier, Cornerstone, Cortex, Daeshin, Datamax-O'Neil, EOS, FACT Software, i-Cart, IBM, ifm, Hiwin, Honeywell, Konica Minolta, KUKA, M1, Motorola Solutions, OGP, Precision Laser, SAGE, SAP, SMC, Stratasys, Tsubaki Unitronics and Videojet. The diverse solutions presented at this trade exhibition were applicable across a wide range of industries such as building and construction, chemical, energy, food and beverage, oil and gas, retail and merchandising.
The trade exhibition was supported by many local and regional trade associations and government agencies. Several delegations from Singapore and around the region attended the trade show and returned with many key takeaways. Most of these participating members in these delegations were impressed by the array of key technologies representing the entire value chain in the manufacturing sector. Most of them felt that such customised group tours were beneficial as it enabled them to conduct a more focused and productive exploration with companies that they sought to meet.
Exciting Line up of Knowledge-based Activities
Another major event organised by SMF, in conjunction with the National Productivity Month, was the Singapore Innovation & Productivity Conference (SIPC) 2014.
Held over two days, SIPC 2014 featured over eight top-notch industrialists, academics and researchers, who shared and exchanged their knowledge and experience with more than 360 attending delegates from 193 companies. Themed “Transform to Perform”, SIPC 2014 focused on the need for companies to transform through innovation and productivity to achieve business growth and sustainability. The conference received positive feedback from participants.
Mr. Tan Ka Huat, Managing Director of CEI Contract Manufacturing Limited, said: “I found the SIPC 2014 enlightening with the key focus on innovation. Content-wise, the conference offered great value in terms of new learnings and excellent practices pursued by the innovative players. My investment of time at SIPC 2014 was very worthwhile.”

A series of technology talks were also conducted over the three trade days. Some of the topics included Smarter Manufacturing with the Internet of Things by IBM, Connecting Dots of IoT by Motorola Solutions, 3D Printing – The Next Industrial Revolution by EOS GmbH, and Future of Manufacturing by Singapore Economic Development Board. Participants found these talks enriching and value-added to their trade show experience.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) and Japan Management Association (JMA). The MOU affirmed commitment between the two organisations in working towards strengthening business relations and economic cooperation between Singapore Japan. The MOU sent a strong signal of intent towards improving the economic vibrancy between both nations.
Mr. Douglas Foo, President of Singapore Manufacturing Federation, said: “The collaboration between SMF and JMA is an important step towards strengthening business relations and promoting economic co-operation between Singapore and Japanese enterprises. It is my wish that by working together, SMF and JMA will be able to learn from each other and provide assistance to our members in the various areas of trade, investment and business events, as well as up-skilling.”
The second edition of Manufacturing Solutions Expo will take place from 7 to 9 October 2015. Premium spaces are now available. Organisations which are keen to exhibit at either of these trade shows are encouraged to reserve their spaces early to avoid disappointment.
