| Port security has been upgraded with the introduction of Nextiva Critical infrastructure from Verint Systems |
Every year, millions of foreign tonnage are offloaded to thousands of vessels in this high-traffic port for distribution throughout the country. This high level of activity in an environment that includes an expansive water perimeter, multi-use facilities, heavy equipment, parking lots, elevators, and storage containers requires sophisticated storage solutions for protecting people, assets, and infrastructure.
The Organization
A high-traffic US port that spans 25 miles and includes a large expanse of open water, sea channels, and diverse cargo facilities.
Strategic Challenge
Standardize on a solution for the port's facility-wide operations to
- Enhance the security of vessels, cargo, and employees by utilising video analytics, in accordance with Department of Homeland Security mandates.
- Address a variety of potential threats, and ensure the smooth flow of goods and services through the port.
- Implement a cost-effective solution in a timely matter.
The Solution
Nextiva Critical Infrastructure from Verint
The Bottom Line
Nextiva Critical Infrastructure has enhanced the security of this port's distributed land-based facilities and open waterways for a more proactive approach to threat prevention and emergency response. Designed to meet the challenges of the world's largest seaports, Nextiva Critical Infrastructure collects and analyses video at the point of capture across the port facility using analytics-embedded, wired and wireless edge devices. Nextiva combines this video with access control data and other enterprise data for a more comprehensive view of port activities. Alarms and alerts associated with video are sent to key security command posts and the port's centralised monitoring station, as well as to multiple law enforcement and government agencies to help the port prevent security breaches, improve response time, and enhance operational efficiency.

| All security systems are integrated into a single infrastructure to provide best possible solutions for port security |
The United States is home to 361 ports that process about 6 million cargo containers every year across some 95,000 miles of shoreline. Protecting these locations is critical. However, because of the diverse activity at seaports, typical legacy CCTV video systems co-exist with access control solutions and enterprise applications, all in disparate silos that are not integrated. Many ports are looking to simplify security operations using a single enterprise application. That is why this major US seaport choose.
Nextiva Critical Infrastructure, an enterprise-class networked video solution designed to reduce risk in port environments to prevent terrorism, enhance container security, reduce theft, protect cruise ships, identify potential threats, and improve the overall flow of trade. Nextiva features an open architecture, which allows disparate solutions to be tied together; an intuitive interface, so that users can learn easily how to navigate and manage the system; integrated analytics to help proactively detect threats; intelligent video distribution and alerts; and wireless capabilities, for areas that are difficult or impossible to wire.
The system deployed at this port used both Nextiva Critical Infrastructure and Nextiva analytics-enabled cameras. These cameras combine land and water analytics to help the port detect potential people, vehicles, and water-based crafts that may pose a security threat. The port selected Nextiva because it is a robust, all-in-one integrated video platform that includes analytics-embedded wireless devices, video recording, and content analytics, providing the port with a streamlined security solution and significant cost savings.
Implementing Nextiva Critical Infrastructure and Nextiva Analytics at this port has allowed security personnel to monitor waterways and land-based perimeters, link disparate systems, and share data with local authorities to proactively prevent threats and improve emergency response.
