The development of EasyAssist incorporates research findings from collaborations with German universities, focusing on minimizing the effort needed across the entire motion range of a door. dormakaba also collaborated with the Singapore Institute of Technology to better understand the challenges faced by older individuals regarding door operations.
This innovation aligns with demographic trends, as highlighted by the World Health Organization's projection of the global population over 60 doubling to approximately 2.1 billion by 2050. Creating accessible environments is increasingly recognized as critical for health, safety, and societal engagement.

Following its launch in the U.S. in April 2026, the EasyAssist system will be introduced in Germany and several Asian countries in July 2026. The launch in Switzerland is planned for spring 2027, with other markets to follow.
Findings from several research collaborations have been incorporated into its development. dormakaba worked with several universities in Germany to investigate how the force required to open a door can be reduced throughout the entire range of motion. In another research project, conducted jointly with the Singapore Institute of Technology, the company explored the specific difficulties doors pose for older adults in their daily lives.
With this innovation, dormakaba is responding to demographic change. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double to around 2.1 billion by 2050. Accessible environments are considered a fundamental prerequisite for health, safety, and social participation.
