US/Canada Border Conference is expected to draw attendance from all relevant U.S. and Canadian agencies
The conference and exhibition will focus on advancing the “Beyond the Border” action plan

Michigan’s St. Clair County Criminal Justice Association has relocated its September meeting to coincide with the opening of the US/Canada Border Conference on September 12th at Detroit’s Cobo Center.   Association membership includes local courts, prosecutor’s office, Chiefs of Police, Michigan State Police, Sheriffs, and federal agencies, including CBP Detroit Sector Border Patrol, Air and Marine, Field Operations Officers, ICE, FBI, DEA and ATF.

“Since our inception, our main goal has been to expand the communication and cooperation between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies responsible for policing and safeguarding our citizens,” said Tom Buckley, Undersheriff, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, and Chairman of the St. Clair County Criminal Justice Association.  “Locating our September Association meeting with the US/Canada Border Conference will work toward enhancing our mission.”

The comprehensive two-day conference and exhibition will focus on advancing the “Beyond the Border” action plan with specific goals outlined including: Addressing threats early; trade facilitation; economic growth and integrated cross-border law enforcement.

The US/Canada Border Conference made headlines when it announced an influential Advisory Board, chaired by W. Ralph Basham, Principal, Command Consulting Group, and former Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner.“US/Canada Border Conference focuses on the issues and opportunities to make the shared U.S. and Canada border more efficient while improving security at and in between this expansive shared border”, said Basham. “US/Canada Border Conference will be the most important event in 2013 to advance the “Beyond the Border” mission.”

On May 30th, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation Ray LaHood alongside Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety announced the first-ever joint United States-Canada Border Infrastructure Investment Plan (BIIP).

US/Canada Border Conference is expected to draw attendance from all relevant U.S. and Canadian agencies by bringing officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Ministry of Safety, Canada Border Services Agency, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, United States Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security/ICE, State/Provincial and local police, Canadian/American Border Trade Alliance, and more.
