HID & NCSSD Partner For School Security Scholarships

HID has collaborated with the National Council of School Safety Directors (NCSSD) to fund 1,000 scholarships for those enrolling in the Foundations of School Security Leadership Certificate course. This educational partnership, set to extend through 2026, strives to remove financial hurdles and enhance access to vital training.

It aims to empower professionals to secure educational facilities against evolving security threats while maintaining an atmosphere of openness and development. As part of the program, scholarship recipients will receive a one-year NCSSD membership to bolster their continued professional growth.

Developed by experienced security professionals within NCSSD, the Foundations Certificate course is a detailed, nine-part online program based on the Path to Safer Schools framework. It offers a comprehensive overview and practical skills in school safety and security, focusing on prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Equipping Schools to Face Safety Challenges

Jason Stoddard, NCSSD Board President, stated, "School administrators know how to run schools, but they are not security experts." He highlighted the necessity for trained security professionals on K–12 campuses to manage safety challenges.

Stoddard explained that the scholarships provided by HID are instrumental in ensuring school security coordinators and pioneers receive the necessary training to effectively address unexpected incidents, confront new challenges, and effectively manage recovery processes. Through this initiative, which will continue throughout 2026, HID is reducing financial barriers that may limit access to essential training to help professionals learn how to protect schools against an emerging threat landscape while still maintaining an open and nurturing environment. In addition, the program will also provide the recipients with a one-year NCSSD membership to further support their professional development.

Application of school safety and security

Created by pioneering school security professionals within NCSSD, the Foundations Certificate is a nine-part, self-paced online course built around the Path to Safer Schools framework. It equips participants with a holistic understanding and practical application of school safety and security—covering prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

This course is designed for every person directly or indirectly responsible for safety and security in both public and private schools—including directors, administrators, coordinators, specialists and staff.

“They must rely on trained security professionals who are prepared to address any safety challenges that arise on K–12 campuses.
