The New Kensington Arnold School District (NKASD) in Pennsylvania has significantly enhanced its security infrastructure by implementing a 911 Camera Sharing system.
This upgrade allows for real-time access to school security camera feeds by the local 911 Dispatch Center in emergencies, improving situational awareness and response times for first responders. By providing immediate visibility, the system enhances protection for students and staff, offering reassurance to parents and the community.
Critical Situational Awareness
Gene Good, 911 Operations Chief at the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety, emphasized the transformative impact of this technology on emergency services. "This is a game changer for emergency services," Good stated.
"When a 911 call comes in near the school, dispatchers automatically receive a prompt that there’s a camera, and can immediately see what’s happening on the ground. This is a key component in providing safe schools." Jon Banko, Principal of Valley Junior-Senior High School, highlighted the priority of student safety by stating, "The safety of our students is our top priority. We want parents to feel confident that we are providing a safe and healthy environment for learning."

The security system upgrade was a joint effort involving 2Krew Security & Surveillance, the NKASD administration, IT Director, School Resource Officer, and New Kensington Arnold Police Department. NKASD IT Director Phil Brautigam noted that the new cloud-native system offers both value and ease of use, allowing for centralized management of security operations.
The system includes Brivo’s unified door access control and video surveillance, along with the capability to detect illegal vaping, all while safeguarding student privacy. The integration of 911 Camera Sharing ensures readiness in emergency situations.
Protecting Student Privacy
Brian Kozlosky, President of 2Krew Security & Surveillance, collaborated with Brautigam, school officials, and local law enforcement to develop and implement the system. "In partnership with Brivo, we installed cloud-native access control to secure all school access points across the district, we incorporated video surveillance, vaping and other environmental sensors," Kozlosky explained.
"With the addition of 911 Camera Sharing, we have a unified, scalable, future-proof system in place for the community."
