Milestone XProtect Corporate provides the backbone for the recording platform at Waterford Regional Hospital

IQinVision, market leader in high-performance HD megapixel IP cameras, recently announced that Waterford Regional Hospital, a public hospital located in Waterford City, Waterford, Ireland, has deployed a mix of IQeye HD megapixel cameras throughout the hospital and grounds and Milestone XProtect Corporate video management software in a major upgrade to their video surveillance system. GVD, a specialist value-added distributor of IP technology, and Park 100, an innovative security integrator, were involved in the sale, design, and installation of the new surveillance system.

With the building of the new Emergency Department at the hospital, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) felt it was the ideal opportunity to embrace the power of IP technology for their security and video surveillance requirements. The new Emergency Department (ED) is a larger and more comfortable environment than the previous facility. Patient care in the ED is supported by a Minor Injuries Unit, a six-bed Medical Assessment Unit, and a 29-bed Acute Medical Unit which facilitate fast-tracking of acutely-sick patients and access for patients to senior decision-making about their admission or discharge. There is also a new Special Care Baby Unit, which is a purpose-built facility for babies born pre-maturely and for seriously-sick babies who need intensive care.

The surveillance upgrade project comprised fitting out the new ED unit with IQinVision Alliance-mx dome cameras, which have a full HD resolution of 1080p equivalent to 2.1 megapixels. The IQeye cameras were chosen after a successful trial installation of the cameras showed clear, superior footage for both day and night time scenarios. IQeye Sentinel cameras were chosen for outdoor installation, a full weather, PoE camera, so no additional power was required for heating or fans. The IQeye Sentinel provides superior image quality in low-light conditions. A total of 63 IQeye HD megapixel cameras have been installed to date at the hospital.

Milestone XProtect Corporate provides the backbone for the recording platform. Milestone was chosen because of its world leading status in terms of IP video management software (VMS), for its ease of integration with third-party systems, and its feature-rich functionality. As the hospital is a critical site, having built-in redundancy in both the recording server hardware and software was paramount.

Video surveillance footage, both live and recorded, can now be accessed from anywhere on the network using Milestone’s free client software, XProtect Smart Client. The security officers in Waterford Regional Hospital have a state-of-the-art security room as part of the new Emergency Department. Using a combination of 22” and 27” LED Full HD 1080p resolution monitors, the custom video wall allows security staff to hone in on video footage throughout the entire hospital campus.

The Waterford hospital security staff is delighted with the crystal-clear IQeye camera image quality and the ease of use of the XProtect Smart Client viewing software. The robust system architecture allows for an unlimited number of users to view megapixel-quality footage on the system simultaneously.
