ZeroEyes, the creator of a sophisticated weapons detection and threat intelligence platform, has renewed its partnership with Sumter County Schools. The renewal comes after two effective years of deploying ZeroEyes’ proactive AI gun detection and situational awareness software across the district.
Serving the rural area of Sumter County, the district comprises nine schools and accommodates about 6,000 students along with 700 faculty and staff. This initiative forms a part of the district’s strategy to ensure a secure and welcoming educational atmosphere.
Commitment to Safety and Collaboration
Philip Martin, the Safety and Security Specialist for Sumter County Schools, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I personally have been very impressed with ZeroEyes since day one. The level of detail that ZeroEyes provides, as well as the responsiveness of their customer service, is outstanding. Communication is always quick, which is critical from a customer standpoint. It’s reassuring to know that this technology is helping keep our students and staff safe.”
The district collaborates closely with local law enforcement, particularly the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, to ensure that security measures are thorough and effective. This technology renewal underlines the district’s commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with community-focused security strategies.

ZeroEyes' AI software enhances existing digital security cameras by providing intelligent situational awareness and gun detection capabilities. Upon identifying a firearm, images are rapidly transmitted to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the only U.S.-based, fully in-house operations center run 24/7/365 by experienced U.S. military and law enforcement personnel.
In instances of confirmed threats, alerts with crucial information—including a visual description, gun type, and last known location—are swiftly sent to law enforcement and school officials. This prompt response capability is key in maintaining campus security.
Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes, commented on the district's efforts, stating, “Sumter County Schools has demonstrated a thoughtful and proactive approach to campus safety. By leveraging real-time intelligence, the district continues to protect its students and faculty while preserving the close-knit community culture that makes Sumter County special.”
