Detection Technology has introduced its newest innovation in X-ray detector technology, the X-Panel 4386a FPI, to the X-Panel XL series of large-area thin-film transistor (TFT) flat panel detectors. This launch marks an expansion to the company's product lineup, following a positive reception of the platform's single-glass technology. The new model, with a 430 x 860 mm active area, is designed to offer enhanced speed and optimized form for industrial computed tomography (CT) imaging needs.
Initially unveiled with the X-Panel 43108 variants, the X-Panel XL series responds to increasing industry demands for efficient inspection of large-scale objects. Collaborating closely with clients, Detection Technology developed the X-Panel 4386a FPI to meet the requirements of high-volume, dynamic imaging scenarios.
Enhanced System Design
"The launch of the X-Panel 4386 as a successor to the X-Panel 43108 demonstrates our commitment to continuously expanding the capabilities of the X-Panel XL series," commented Tuomas Holma, Product Director at Detection Technology. This latest addition introduces an improved framework for faster and more adaptable industrial imaging systems, addressing the demand for better throughput and imaging precision.
The X-Panel 4386a FPI boasts a dual-side readout design, achieving up to 15 fps in full resolution, 45 fps in 3x3 binning mode, and 90 fps in 6x6 binning mode. These frame rates surpass those of many other large-area detectors on the market. Incorporating a-Si TFT technology, the panel features a 140 μm pixel size within a matrix of 3072 x 6144, and it supports 10G BASE-T connectivity for swift data transfer.
Optimized for Various Applications
The detector is tailored for high-energy X-ray tube applications, with options for DRZ-Plus and Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillators. It is designed for large-area imaging with high-speed acquisition needs, including applications in:
- Industrial CT and digital radiography (DR) systems
- Automotive inspections, particularly for large assemblies and battery systems
- Aerospace evaluations of composite structures like fuselage and wing sections
- Examinations of heavy castings and large industrial parts
- Defense and munitions inspections
- Conveyor-based manufacturing inspection systems
Distinct Advantages
The X-Panel XL series provides significant advantages over conventional large-area dynamic detectors
The X-Panel XL series provides significant advantages over conventional large-area dynamic detectors. Its expansive active area minimizes the number of scans needed for imaging large objects, reducing stitching artifacts and increasing productivity.
The high frame rate supports faster CT acquisition, thus boosting throughput. Additionally, its compact design facilitates more versatile cabinet X-ray and system configurations.
Global Reach and Support
Engineered for durability in industrial conditions, the X-Panel XL series complies with global EMC, safety, environmental, and industry standards, which simplifies integration and certification for OEM clients. Available globally, the series offers manufacturing options from both the EU and China, ensuring flexible supply and localized support. Application testing and system integration support are provided through demo units and technical services.
Detection Technology plans to begin delivering the X-Panel 4386 at the end of 2026, while shipments of the X-Panel 43108 have already commenced. The company will showcase the X-Panel XL line, along with other flat panel and line scan X-ray detectors, at ECNDT 2026, the European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing.
Detection Technology, a global pioneer in X-ray detector solutions, announces the launch of the X-Panel 4386a FPI, the latest addition to its X-Panel XL series of large-area thin-film transistor (TFT) flat panel detectors. Building on the strong market response to the single-glass X-Panel XL platform, the new detector extends the product family with industry-leading speed and an optimized large-area form factor featuring a 430 × 860 mm active area for high-speed industrial computed tomography (CT) imaging applications.
The X-Panel XL series, originally launched with X-Panel 43108 variants, addresses the growing demand for high-throughput inspection of large objects in industrial imaging. Developed in close collaboration with customers, the X-Panel 4386a FPI expands the product family with a 430 x 860 mm active area detector for demanding dynamic imaging applications.
