COE will provide real-time monitoring of stations over the three lines
COE will be delivering automated camera tracking software

COE Limited, a global leader in the design and manufacture of video surveillance technologies, with its partner Dong Young, announces another success in South Korea in winning the contract to provide the video surveillance solution for lines 1, 3 and 4 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway network.  In annual ridership, Seoul Metropolitan Subway ranks as the third most heavily used subway system in the world, serving over 8 million journeys daily, in and around the capital city of South Korea.

COE will provide real-time monitoring of stations over the three lines, augmented by automated camera tracking software to enhance operator effectiveness and a sophisticated video management system for operating and maintaining the surveillance network. Each of the 70 stations across the three lines will operate between 64 and 128 cameras, resulting in the COE Telecommand management system being responsible for the control of up to 8,000 cameras.

Ian Jefferson, CEO of COE Ltd comments: "Systems of this size and complexity demand high reliability rugged products coupled to efficient operations. COE designs its solutions around these criteria whilst integrating state of the art techniques and technologies. Our partners are key to delivering these objectives and Dong Young's technical acumen and expertise has been invaluable. We are delighted with the resultant system solution."

COE are industry leaders in optical multiplexing technologies, and the only CCTV equipment provider to offer a fully redundant CWDM enabled, matrix structured video system. The system structure allows real-time analog signal delivery to any of the three main control centres at multiple locations around the network. This ensures operators may select any camera instantly from any station in real time, which for systems this size is a key requirement for crisis and risk management. The embedded technologies to perform these actions are unique to COE and featured across the core products of our X-Net fibre products set.

In order to maximize operator effectiveness and reduce fatigue, COE will also be delivering automated camera tracking software. This software works in conjunction with the operator keyboard to allow automated control of the many Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras within the system. Object/person tracking is a new tool within surveillance systems and reduces the requirements for operators to move the cameras manually. Maintenance and management information will be available in real time to module level for fast fault remedy.

Yong Ill Woo, General Manager of Dong Young comments: "COE's strong references and expertise in metro railway surveillance have made their equipment the clear choice for the Seoul Metro project. COE is the only company that designs and manufactures a complete integrated solution for a fully redundant CWDM fibre optic video transmission system, video matrix system and integrated video analytics. This combination of technologies makes COE uniquely suited to fulfill the demands encountered when approaching large and complex projects such as this."

COE has delivered similar technology to rail and road systems around the world where its equipment meets or exceeds the required critical operational and environmental factors. Through delivering analog, digital and IP video transmission and management solutions within a single management platform, COE provides a formidable product set and a unified approach to complex surveillance projects.
