Milwaukee County's General Mitchell Airport (GMIA) recently selected Johnson Controls Inc, of Milwaukee, WI, to supply, program, and commission a fiber optic infrastructure within the airport campus. This is the largest phase of the multi-phased fiber optic conversion from multimode to single-mode fiberOT Systems worked with Johnson Controls to supply the fiber optic products that maximize the airport's return on investment by minimizing the number of fibres used, saving time and resources. Installing this type of infrastructure allows GMIA to run various other IP-based systems such as their Johnson Controls Digital Vision Network 5000 and Johnson Controls P2000 security management platform.

The upgrade included OT Systems' single-, four- and eight-channel fiber optic transmitter and receivers as well as Ethernet media converters for single-mode fiber, increasing the airport's security system communication bandwidth and distance capabilities.

"Johnson Controls and OT Systems were able to make this installation work seamlessly and, at the same time, save the airport precious time, money and other resources by minimizing the number of fibres used," explained Joel Lehman, vice president, Johnson Controls, fire and security, North America and Joe Frank, OT Systems' director of sales for the Americas.
