The qualification covers electrical and electronic principles and how to work effectively and safely in the electro technical environment

Tavcom Training, the leading supplier of BTEC certificated security systems training courses, has announced that it is offering students who are looking to develop a career within the electronic security industry, the opportunity to qualify for a City & Guilds 1853 Technical Certificate.

“Tavcom has been a registered City & Guilds approved center for many years and so our expert tutors are excited about the opportunity to conduct this particular course which will provide clients with an alternative option to a BTEC qualification,” said Paul Tennent, Managing Director of Tavcom Training. “With BS EN standards now requiring qualification and competency in a number of disciplines, the City & Guilds 1853 Technical Certificate will be advantageous to anyone who may be working with a wide range of electronic security systems, including CCTV, Access Control, Intruder and Fire Alarm systems.”

The qualification covers electrical and electronic principles and how to work effectively and safely in the electro technical environment. It also covers the basic occupational knowledge for surveyors and designers and those involved in the commissioning, installation and maintenance of systems. The qualification is part of the apprenticeship framework for security systems and results in the awarding of a Level 2 Certificate in Knowledge of Electronic Security and Emergency Systems. The qualification is based on the UK Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and maps directly into the European Qualification Framework.

The introduction of the City & Guilds 1853 Technical Certificate course coincides with the publication of Tavcom’s 2014 prospectus which sets out information on over 70 accredited classroom and distant learning online courses. The Prospectus can be viewed online, while a printed copy is available upon request.
