Observation Without Limits (O.W.L.), a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in both 2D and 3D radar systems for low-altitude airspace and ground surveillance, has announced the release of its newly enhanced GroundAware® GA1360LH radar system.
The GA1360LH, a customizable 2D 360-degree digital multi-beamforming radar, is designed to distinguish between humans, animals, and vehicles—be they on land or water—serving as a vital tool for monitoring and securing critical infrastructure sites.
Enhanced Detection and Classification
Adam Robinett, CEO of O.W.L., highlighted the capabilities of their flagship technology: “Our original GA1360 radar was designed to function as the wide-area perimeter intrusion detection sensor that helped meet NERC CIP-014 requirements for transmission substations. The GA1360 quickly became our workhorse ground surveillance radar that serves as the foundation for event-based layered security at all kinds of critical infrastructure sites. Now, our GA1360LH provides longer detection ranges and improved target tracking for automated detection, tracking, deterrence, and response to intrusions within a 1 km radius of critical sites.”

Comprehensive Application Range
The GA1360LH is designed to serve a range of environments including, but not limited to, electrical transmission substations, natural gas compression stations, hydroelectric dams, water reservoirs, treatment plants, and other significant infrastructure such as airports, seaports, and data centers. It is particularly suited for locations with open perimeters and high security needs.
Technical Specifications
Equipped with advanced digital beamforming radar technology, the GA1360LH ensures dependable all-weather detection across various target types. It boasts a 1 km+ detection range for ground and water vehicles and a 600-meter range for identifying humans. Furthermore, it integrates smoothly with ONVIF cameras, video management systems like Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, and other integrated security and management systems.
Additional features include customizable alarm zones with automatic response triggers, and it's a solid-state system with no moving parts, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance. The radar operates within the S band frequency (3.0 GHz–3.3 GHz), providing a 360-degree azimuth FOV and 40-degree elevation FOV, and functions efficiently between temperatures of -20 degree C to +60 degree C (-4 degree F to +140 degree F).
