Siklu Inc., the global market leader in millimeter-wave solutions, has announced that its MultiHaul auto-aligned radios were selected by the City of Wichita to provide the wireless connectivity for 72 fixed bullet, dome and PTZ cameras from Axis Communication that make up the surveillance network deployed in the city’s Old Town district. Genetec Security Crime Monitoring Center The City of Wichita deployed Siklu MultiHaul radios instead of running fiber throughout the city, which would have been cost prohibitive. Community Improvement Project funds were received to implement a security system that would provide coverage throughout the entire Old Town district, which is now a popular entertainment area. Previously, the city relied on video footage collected from private businesses. The new system is now monitored through its recently opened crime monitoring center built using the Genetec Security Center unified security platform. “One of the heavy burdens we uncovered during our initial data collection is that we spend a lot of police resources in Old Town,” said Denise Peters, Program Manager, City Manager’s Office, for the City of Wichita. “Our new wireless security network now enables us to utilize our officers more strategically and to provide better response in the event of an incident.” EtherHaul mmWave Radios For Long-Range Backhaul Connecting Cameras In addition to the MultiHaul, the wireless network uses Siklu’s EtherHaul mmWave radios for longer-range backhaul connecting cameras to the new command and control center. Thanks to the multi-gigabit capacity of the network, the city can run multiple applications on the same wireless network simultaneously and is looking at using Siklu mmWave wireless radios for other applications, such as local area network connectivity to city buildings. By using the MultiHaul, Siklu’s newest mmWave radio technology, systems integrator Sandifer Engineering & Controls, Inc., was able to significantly reduce the amount of time it took to install and configure the wireless system. “With the MultiHaul, one of the biggest positives was obtaining complete network reliability while achieving the high throughput and speeding up installation times,” said Jeremy Long, Security Project Manager, Sandifer Engineering & Controls, Inc. MultiHaul Employs Beamforming Technology To Facilitate Easy Installation The MultiHaul uses beamforming technology within a point-to-multipoint network topology that makes installation by a single person a reality for system integrators. The solution’s 90-degree scanning antenna auto-aligns multiple terminal units from a single base unit, serving multiple locations while reducing installation times and the total cost of ownership for end users. Siklu radios leverage narrow beams in the 60, 70-80 GHz millimeter wave spectrum to transmit information across security networks, providing interference free communication infrastructure, making it ideal for mission critical and smart cities deployments that demand secured always-on connectivity. “Reliable gigabit bandwidth and the ability to share information quickly between municipal and safety departments can help make cities safer by enabling police departments to take a proactive approach with their city surveillance systems,” said Eyal Assa, Chief Executive Officer of Siklu. “And that’s a win for everyone.”

Siklu, the provider of mmWave wireless solutions, provides a backbone network of gigabit radios to approximately 1000 homes and business subscribers of Gigamex, a mexiquense ISP in the City of Toluca. The main challenge in connecting the network was ensuring enough capacity for the access networks. Saturation in the 5GHz frequency band in the city center did not allow them to work to the maximum capacity of their previous legacy wireless radios, which could provide only less than 200 Mbps. This prevented Gigamex from integrating new subscribers into their network and expanding their coverage areas in Toluca. Siklu provided design consultation and utilized its SmartHaul Link Budget Calculator to validate the required link capacity and predicted performanceFast Delivery Time Gigamex searched for an alternative wireless solution that was not affected by the plethora of 5GHz WiFi Aps by operating on a separate, cleaner spectrum. Siklu mmWave solutions, operating in the 70-80Ghz spectrum with over 17GHz of bandwidth available, were chosen after an in-depth market research and investigation of previous success stories worldwide, to provide the required capacity and fast delivery time and ensure local technical presence. Siklu provided design consultation and utilized its SmartHaul Link Budget Calculator to validate the required link capacity and predicted performance. Twelve (12) point to point radios were installed between the city center and the surrounding mountains within 7 service distribution nodes from their nearby internet POP. Significant Savings The network was deployed throughout a total coverage area of 30 kilometers, delivering 99.99% availability with each radio boasting 2Gbps full-duplex capacity. The links were installed and aligned within 2 days and immediately began delivering reliable multigigabit performance. The reduced cost of acquisition and implementation of the links has resulted in significant savings for the company. Cost of a fibre deployment would have been at least 10 times higher than the cost of deploying Siklu’s mmWave linksThe alternate option to grow the network that had been considered was with fiber optics. The cost of a fiber deployment would have been at least 10 times higher than the cost of deploying Siklu’s mmWave links. Moreover, it allowed Gigamex to maintain the install base of customers and target a growth of at least 20% in new subscribers. Deliver Beyond Expectations “The current project is expected to grow and strengthen the Gigamex transport network without having to resort to a fully licensed spectrum” said Jesús Moran, COO at Gigamex. “We were not expecting a wireless vendor to perform as promised and were astounded that Siklu was able to deliver beyond our expectations with smooth operation and a robust network, supplying all the bandwidth we could hope for”. “Gigamex’s service is backhauled by Siklu’s carrier grade solutions, delivering blazing speeds to improve residents and business owners lives in Mexico” stated Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. “Siklu’s success in Mexico including Grupo Pinsa and now Gigamex in the city of Toluca serve as examples of the best way to deliver gigabit performance economically in areas with limited fiber deployment.”

Siklu Inc., global provider of mmWave wireless solutions, announced that the John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, has deployed mmWave radios from Siklu providing wireless connectivity for a remote building and the airport runway for the purposes of local area network connectivity (LAN, internet, VOIP). The airport, which is the largest passenger airport in central Ohio and second busiest in the state with over 150 flights daily, had a need for a wireless network to connect its Shipping and Receiving Building, which is a detached building located half a mile across the runway. The building receives daily shipments from external couriers. The previous wireless system did not provide a robust, interference-free connectivity or the bandwidth required to support the ever-changing needs of a local area network and Internet connectivity. “There was no infrastructure to support a fiber connection, so it would have been extremely costly and time consuming to run a pathway for conduit and for the fiber, as well,” said Kristina Baker, PMP, Project Manager for Technical Services, with the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. “It’s a very busy building and we needed reliable network connectivity to process shipments received or shipments going out.” The radios can stream many different applications, including HD and 4K video cameras and other IoT sensors Wireless Connectivity The location of the building presented connectivity challenges due to the potential for network interference from inclement weather and other airport vehicles moving across the runway throughout the day. Another major concern was regarding planes interfering with the wireless communication as they taxi down the runway. The airport determined that it required interference-free, reliable connectivity to ensure uninterrupted local area network connectivity and smooth operation. Convergint Technologies, provider of service-based systems integration, served as the systems integrator for the project and proposed a Siklu mmWave wireless fiber solution. The company installed two point to point EH-1200FX 70/80GHz Gigabit radios. Transmitting high bandwidth information across security networks, the radios provide interference-free connectivity with 99.999% availability, leveraging narrow beams that are immune to heavy Wi-Fi signals within the airport. Simple to install, the radios can stream many different applications, including HD and 4K video cameras and other IoT sensors. This project with the John Glenn Columbus International Airport demonstrates the full capabilities and reliability of Siklu’s mmWave wireless radios"Ease Of Installation The radios were tested in heavy rain and found to work perfectly with no degradation to performance. The installation at John Glenn Columbus International Airport took only two days to complete, according to Mazen Moghannan, Account Executive from Convergint Technologies, a relatively simple process even though it was their first time installing Siklu radios. “My foreman and lead technician were very pleased because of the ease of installation of the Siklu radios and the ease of working with the airport.” The airport, which is currently testing the use of high-definition cameras on the Siklu mmWave network, is considering adding cameras to the network in the future. “This project with the John Glenn Columbus International Airport demonstrates the full capabilities and reliability of Siklu’s field proven mmWave wireless radios, especially in high security and interference prone areas,” said Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. “We’re pleased to be selected as the airport’s wireless technology partner of choice and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
Siklu Inc., a provider of mmWave wireless solutions, announces Smart City deployments based on Siklu’s broad E-band and V-band product portfolio have reached a milestone of 100 cities installed. Smart Cities, which were initially defined as municipalities connecting low data rate sensors for water, gas and more, have been evolving to demand high-capacity connectivity at gigabit-per-second speed. This high-bandwidth network infrastructure is needed to support new applications such as video security, public Wi-Fi backhaul, and private city network deployments. As municipalities move to support an increase in public safety cameras and improved connectivity between public buildings such as police, fire, schools, and libraries, the networks are being upgraded. All of these serves to help fuel economic development for residents, cost savings for the cities, and improved security for all. Siklu to deliver interference-free connectivity for 40 newly installed HD IP CCTV cameras Challenges With Fiber Network A key challenge with so many services to be supported is to implement a single, city-wide network that can provide enough capacity for all these services today, as well as to scale up as more connected devices and locations are added in the future. While fiber is a core portion of these citywide networks, fiber does not have nearly the ubiquitous coverage that can be achieved with mmWave wireless. Extending the fiber network can be costly and time-consuming. Using fiber where it is available but adding the capacity and latency of fiber networks with Siklu solutions to virtually any location, gives city planners the ability to have 100% coverage. Examples of Smart City projects deployed by Siklu include the Burnley Town Centre project in England, which installed 18 high capacity point-to-point mmWave EtherHaul™ 500TX and 600TX links from Siklu to deliver interference-free connectivity for 40 newly installed HD IP CCTV cameras. Siklu’s Widespread Projects In the City of Wichita, Siklu’s mmWave MultiHaul™ point-to-multipoint radios are used to connect 72 fixed bullet, dome, and PTZ cameras and protect its Old Town district. The multi-gigabit capacity network can run multiple applications on the same wireless network simultaneously. The city is currently looking at using Siklu mmWave wireless radios for other applications, such as local area network connectivity to city buildings and frees public WiFi. Interference in the 5GHz band was a significant concern for the City of Wichita, and mmWave addressed this potential problem. Crossing the 100 Cities threshold, Siklu is building urban resilience" Dover Castle, 11th-century English historic location popular with tourists, sought improvements in its network connectivity throughout the site. Having to support POS data, public access Wi-Fi, CCTV, and corporate LAN extensions, a number of Siklu EH-600TX links were dotted around the castle grounds, most with a camouflage vinyl wrap to ensure the radios blend in with their surroundings. Recognition “Today there is an increasing acceptance of Siklu’s mmWave technology, and people are starting to recognize the benefits our solution provides when compared with installing new fiber or a traditional Wi-Fi-based wireless infrastructure network,” said Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. “Crossing the 100 Cities threshold, Siklu is building urban resilience and providing steady multi-gigabit infrastructure up to 10Gbps, which cities can rely on and have confidence in their ability to scale up in the future.” Siklu’s end-to-end solution will be showcased at Smart City Connect, Kansas City, March 26-29, innovation stands 8T-8W and at ISC West, Las Vegas, April 11-13, Axis booth #14051.
Siklu Inc., the global market leader in millimetre wave solutions, announced its Etherhaul mmWave radios have been installed as part of an extensive upgrade to the town centre surveillance network in Burnley, which is located in Lancashire, England. The 18 high capacity point-to-point mmWave links from Siklu deliver interference-free connectivity for 40 newly installed HD IP CCTV cameras from Hikvision to provide fibre-like performance, low latency and real-time HD quality that is now enabling not only recognition but also identification. The new wireless network and new cameras are part of a mission critical Lancashire Hub CCTV Centralization Project, which was designed to consolidate multiple control centers into a single location. Public Safety For Modern Smart City With the Siklu mmWave EH-500TX and EH-600TX radios, Burnley Town Centre can leverage the licence free and lightly licenced V-band to deliver reliable connectivity with 99.999% link availability by operating over the uncongested 60GHz frequency and using narrow beams which are immune to interference. The radios also support PoE out so that the Hikvision cameras can be wired directly into the Siklu radios eliminating the need for additional switching hardware. With the new infrastructure in place, Burnley Town Centre has improved its public safety and begun to build the foundation for a modern smart city. The system was installed by OpenView Security Solutions Ltd (OSS), a leading installer of wireless and CCTV infrastructure with offices throughout the U.K. OSS integrated the new cameras with the premium HikVision iVMS-5200 Professional to create a reliable surveillance network. Siklu was selected by OSS after realising Burnley Town Centre needed an alternative wireless frequency because its existing traditional 5GHz infrastructure is associated with a high level of interference. The project now also achieves further cost savings by significantly reducing and removing reoccurring leased line costs. Resilient Network Infrastructures “Siklu’s best of breed wireless solutions enable the delivery of scalable and resilient network infrastructures that support the provision of the highest level of service,” said Andy Ward, Sales Director of OpenView Security Solutions. “The Lancashire Hub CCTV Centralization Project is now arguably one of the most advanced and robust networks in the country”. “The Burnley town centre project with OpenView Security Solutions represents an innovative approach to delivering interference-free connectivity with significant cost savings,” said Eyal Assa, CEO of Siklu. “We are excited to work with OpenView Security Solutions and to expand access to mmWave wireless networks across the U.K.”
The city of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, is a well-known historic English city located approximately 80 kilometres north of London on the River Cam. Settled in the first century, B.C., Cambridge is one of England’s oldest and best-known cities, famously home to Cambridge University, one of the largest universities in the English-speaking world and one of the top five universities in the world. The city center of Cambridge today is comprised primarily of commercial and historic buildings and large green areas such as Jesus Green, a popular park. Many of the roads in the city center are closed to automobile traffic and have become pedestrian only zones to accommodate visiting tourists and a large student population. In recent years, Cambridge also has become a leading technology hub where many software, electronics and biotechnology start-ups are located, making it one of the most important technology centers in Europe. Public-Space CCTV Camera System The public CCTV system for Cambridge includes cameras throughout the city that are used to monitor public events, thwart crime, manage traffic and provide residents and businesses with a safe place to live and work. The Cambridge City Council oversees the city’s CCTV program and recently partnered with the nearby Huntingdonshire District Council to share CCTV services. The shared CCTV system in total monitors 254 cameras across the district, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, covering: Cambridge City, as well as: the town centers of Huntingdon, Godmanchester, Ramsey, St. Ives, St. Neots and Yaxley; and the recreation centers in Huntingdon and St. Ives. From the central command Cambridgeshire Constabulary Communication Centre, security officers also monitor CCTV from remotely activated cameras at Stilton, the Priory Park Sports Pavilion in St. Neots and a CCTV camera at the Alconbury Weston ford to assess river levels and potential flooding. In its shared arrangement with Huntingdon District Council, Cambridge City Council manages and maintains all of the Council's fixed public-space CCTV cameras and monitors CCTV installed in a range of council services, including car parks and housing projects, and also for a number of external customers. The Council manages re-deployable CCTV cameras that are temporarily located around the city for special events or use. The Council manages re-deployable CCTV cameras that are temporarily located around the city for special events or use Upgrading Fiber To Wireless Technology The Cambridge City CCTV system used leased fiber for several years for connection between its analog cameras and central command center. With a reduction of operating expenses in mind, the City Council eventually sought to move to a complete wireless network for its CCTV system, replacing its dependence on and the recurring costs of leased fiber. In 2012, the City Council installed a legacy wireless network for the city center CCTV system, enlisting the help of systems integration partner Videcom Security, Ltd., whose headquarters are in nearby Essex county. Videcom installed a 5.8 GHz wireless network to provide CCTV system connectivity, as well as several wireless aggregation points to backhaul CCTV information across the network and 22 new CCTV cameras for the city center. The deployment of a new wireless infrastructure helped Cambridge City Council to migrate from leased fiber lines, delivering significant operating expense reductions. Pan-Network CCTV Footage Sharing In Cambridge’s city center, Wi-Fi based 5.8 GHz wireless networks abound, given the proximity of Cambridge University, the city’s heavily used public Wi-Fi network and the many commercial and personal networks deployed in the area. As a result of 5.8 GHz saturation, in 2015, following the initial deployment of the Council’s network, the CCTV system began to suffer latency issues, interference and disruption in its communications. The increased latency and congestion made it difficult to track individuals and vehicles, while interference caused transmission delays that resulted in lost video streams. “To get a sense of the network congestion in the city center area, our technicians performed spectrum testing and found that on a relatively quiet day, more than 750 applications were using the 5.8 GHz spectrum in the Market Square area alone,” said Ron Johnson. “With more than 16 cameras routed through the Market Square and 40 cameras deployed nearby, the City Council’s CCTV system was competing with hundreds of other networks when trying to move CCTV camera footage across its network.” Siklu EH-600TX 60GHz Millimeter Wave Radio Videcom turned to Siklu for help to remedy the latency and interference issues of the Cambridge City Council’s 5.8 GHz CCTV system network, after having tried three other manufacturers’ wireless network solutions to no avail. After securing the approval of the City Council, Videcom deployed a Siklu EH-600TX 60GHz millimeter wave radio to serve as the engine for the wireless CCTV network. Since deploying the Siklu solution in June 2016, the Council’s CCTV network is fast, reliable and stable and is no longer competing with the many wireless networks in the city center area. The 60 GHz millimeter wave spectrum used by Siklu radios is separated from the traditional Wi-Fi 5.8 GHz spectrum, so that past issues with images not loading properly, camera latency and unreliable connectivity no longer exist. "Cambridge City Council wanted to use the best technology available to provide public security forits citizens and businesses" “Latency was by far the major concern going into this project for the obvious reason that in order to provide sound security, one needs a robust wireless network that has the bandwidth to accommodate high-resolution images, motion-detection cameras and a lot of information moving back and forth across the network,” said Ron Johnson. “With Siklu, we now only experience 350 micro seconds of latency, which is on par with or a bit lower than fiber.” Secure Transmission Unlike legacy 5.8 GHz wireless networks whose wide beams can be vulnerable to interception, the Siklu radios deployed in Cambridge’s CCTV system use ultra-narrow beams between 0.5 and two degrees in width in the 60 GHz millimeter wave spectrum, making the radios inherently secure from interceptions and hacking. As a result, sensitive information can be transmitted across the network securely. Due to the positive impact that the Siklu solution has had on the CCTV system’s network capacity, security and reliability, the City Council has deployed 10 additional Siklu radios across the CCTV network and has also added five new cameras to the system. The Council plans to replace most of its existing 5.8 GHz links with Siklu’s millimeter wave technology in the near future. “In a situation in which we had run out of options, Siklu delivered exactly what we needed for the City of Cambridge: the flexibility of a wireless infrastructure with fiber-like performance,” said Johnson. Functional Wireless Communications Siklu’s radios have helped the Cambridge City Council to transform its CCTV system from one easily affected by congestion in the traditional 5.8 GHz spectrum, to one that is fully functional, regardless of other wireless communications in the city center area. Should the city seek to expand or strengthen its network further in the future, it can do so incrementally by adding additional Siklu radios as needed, benefiting from the infinite scalability inherent to millimeter wave wireless technology. “Like many city and town councils today, the Cambridge City Council wanted to use the best technology available to provide public security for its citizens and businesses, while at the same time finding ways to reduce operating expenses,” said Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. “It’s gratifying to know that together with Videcom, we were able to help them meet that goal.”
Siklu Inc., a global provider of millimeter-wave solutions, announced that it has been selected by the City of Cambridge, England, to provide wireless connectivity for the city’s CCTV surveillance system in its town center. The Siklu EtherHaul radios deployed in Cambridge City Centre replace the 5.8 GHz wireless technology previously used by the city for its CCTV network. Wireless mmWave Technology Cambridge City Centre is a commercial and historic district that is adjacent to Cambridge University, making it a high traffic area for traditional 5 GHz wireless networks that are used by businesses, university departments and residents. Siklu radios bypass the congested 5.8 GHz spectrum wireless frequency by using the millimeter wave spectrum to transmit information across Cambridge’s CCTV networks, providing an interference-free and secured communication infrastructure for the city. “Siklu’s millimeter wave technology eliminated the camera latency issues that the previous wireless infrastructure presented,” said Ron Johnson, the owner of Videcom Security, which installed the Siklu radios for the city. “The CCTV network in the city center is now so robust that we have been able to install additional cameras in the area for more comprehensive security coverage without sacrificing fiber-like network speed, reliability and stability.” Secure Network Communication The public CCTV system shared by Cambridge and several other cities in the district monitors 254 cameras total, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year to monitor public events, thwart crime, manage traffic and provide residents and businesses with a safe place to live and work. Unlike legacy wireless networks whose wide beams can be vulnerable to interception, the Siklu radios deployed in Cambridge’s CCTV system use ultra-narrow beams in the 60GHz millimeter wave spectrum to transmit information across the network securely, making the radios inherently secure from interceptions and hacking. As a result, sensitive information can be transmitted across the network securely. “As technology advances and physical security requires more and more security and reliable network bandwidth, Siklu can offer cities like Cambridge the infrastructure needed to keep city centers and other areas safe,” said Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. The Siklu EtherHaul mmWave product line will be showcased at IFSEC as part of Milestone Systems’ stand #E750, where Siklu will also conduct a live demonstration.
