Identive’s access control system secures more than 200 key entry points and restricted areas at the new terminal
HIRSCH provides integrated physical access and security for the airport’s newly redesigned Terminal 2

Identive Group, Inc., a provider of solutions and services for the identification, security and RFID industries, has expanded the implementation of its HIRSCH access control system at San Diego International Airport to provide integrated physical access and security for the airport’s newly redesigned Terminal 2, known as the ‘Green Build.’

“Since its first installation 15 years ago, the HIRSCH access control system has grown with the airport and met our evolving security and performance needs,” said Clint Welch, Aviation Security Manager for San Diego International Airport. “The Green Build further increases our capacity, but also raises the number of personnel supporting our passengers and airlines. In any airport, safety is a high priority and entry points are a critical area of vulnerability. Our expanded access control system provides the integrated control and visibility we need to ensure the security of our facility and the people in it.”

“San Diego is one of more than a dozen general aviation airports in the U.S. for which Identive is providing integrated physical access and security,” said Stephen Healy, EVP, Access Control & Security at Identive. “We value our long-term relationship with the San Diego International Airport and are proud to be a trusted partner in this next phase of its growth. With the expansion of its access control system from Identive, the San Diego airport can implement enhanced security practices including high assurance identity verification (PKI+PIN+BIO), authentication and registration of presence, consolidated incident data review and access authorization. The Critical Infrastructure/Transportation market is just one of the many applications where our HIRSCH access control solution is being deployed outside the US Government space.”

Identive’s access control system secures more than 200 key entry points and restricted areas at the new terminal, which is used by 10,000 airline and airport employees and contractors. Known as the ‘Green Build’ for its focus on environmental sustainability, San Diego’s expanded Terminal 2 includes ten new gates, enabling the airport to move up to four million additional passengers a year.

Identive’s access control system for San Diego’s Green Build terminal includes DIGI*TRAC controllers as well as RUU and ScrambleSmartProx door readers that enable a range of authentication methods including ID cards, smart cards, PIN codes and biometrics. A fault tolerant, highly available server system provides business continuity even in the event of loss of multiple networks and computers. Velocity Security Management Software provides centralized control and monitoring of all access points, and integrates with third-party video, information management and other systems. Velocity also relays information from the access control subsystem to the airport’s high level command and control system so that airport management is alerted to any access control events.

The access control system also complies with all relevant federal requirements and technology standards and supports pre-hire clearance of airport workers as well as automatic comparison against the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) ”No Fly” List and Threat Assessment database.
