AC2000 SE provides advanced security to Irish Port
CEM Systems has supplied its AC2000 SE integrated security management system for installation at Port of Cork, Ireland. The contract was awarded by ADT Fire & Security and will be supported by an advanced CCTV system and intercom network, part of a major contract ADT has signed with the Port of Cork to provide an advanced integrated security system.
The AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) system has been safeguarding many high security facilities across the UK, Europe and Asia for many years. Ideal for the Port environment, AC2000 SE provides great flexibility and stability with advanced access control and ID badging, enabling Port authorities to satisfy requirements under the International Ship and Port facility Security Code (ISPS).
Employing over 100 full time staff and with total contributions on goods and services of €230 million to the Irish economy, the Port of Cork is widely reported to be one of Europe’s most progressive and successful ports, enjoying a sustained period of traffic growth and investment in modern facilities.

With similar security environments we are well placed to understand the unique challenges marine ports present and provide a solution to fit.” Fulton continued, “Fundamental to this is a security product like AC2000 SE that is both highly secure and flexible so that it can be developed over time to meet the changing needs of the Port user.”
CEM InfoProx and EtherProx intelligent card readers will play a pivotal role in securing the various areas of the Port. The EtherProx reader connects directly to Ethernet providing an easy and cost effective way to connect remote buildings without the need to run dedicated serial cables or install intelligent control panels in the system design. This was particularly useful to Port of Cork as the estate has sites that are more than 10 miles apart. With an on-board database the CEM card readers provide intelligent decision-making at point of entry, even if host communication is not available the reader will act independently storing over 150,000 cardholder details and transactions.
“AC2000 SE proved an ideal system to enable our Port facilities to increase security conditions in response to the ISPS code introduced in 2004” commented Captain Pat Murphy, Alt. Port Facility Security Officer at Port of Cork Company. “AC2000 SE will be responsible for access control at 6 port sites, securing the many buildings and cargo areas across the vast harbour estate” Murphy continued.
With over one thousand cardholders initially, the AC2000 VIPPS system will provide Port of Cork with the facility to design and print professional security passes, incorporating personnel images, company logo, individual signatures as well as other associated information.
