A house or apartment can be made multimedia-compatible simply and cost-effectively with the new Mobotix Mx2wire media converter
In just a couple of minutes, a house or apartment can be made multimedia-compatible simply and cost-effectively with the new Mobotix Mx2wire media converter, which transforms a two-wire cable that is no longer used into a network cable including power supply. For instance, a telephone line, antenna cable or bell wire can be used to connect multimedia devices like computers, network cameras, WLAN routers, Internet telephones or door intercoms without the need to lay new cables or use an additional power supply. The Mx2wire media converter from Mobotix consists of two units connected to both ends of a cable measuring up to 500 meters in length. Using patented Mobotix technology, the two Mx2wire units are automatically configured as a sender or receiver, which then makes it possible to establish network connections throughout an entire building.

High-speed data transfer with power supply included

The two units in the Mx2wire media converter are able to transfer data at rates of up to 30 Mbps depending on the diameter and length of the cable. At the same time, power up to a maximum of 7 Watts is provided using the ‘Power over Ethernet' standard. This in turn enables devices such as network cameras or WLAN routers to be powered via the Mx2wire system.

Price and scope of delivery

The Mx2wire media converter comprises two Mx2wire units, each consisting of a circuit board and housing, front panel, socket frames, a flush-mounted or surface-mounted socket and assembly parts. The socket frames are available for delivery in several different designs.

The Mx2wire media converter set including sender and receiver is now available for EUR 398. The system was developed and is manufactured by Mobotix in Germany.

Application examples

Internet connection: The second floor of a house may contain a modern home office with multiple network devices such as computers, printers and an Internet telephone, even though the Internet connection is located on the first floor. For Mx2wire to work, it simply needs to be connected to an analog telephone line that is no longer in use. The only thing the unit needs to supply power to the Internet telephone and for its own consumption is a switch (network distributor), to which the remaining network devices can also be directly connected.

WLAN router: A WLAN router can be connected to a remote DSL connection. The distance from the router to the remote devices on another floor can once again be bridged using Mx2wire and an analog telephone line, for example. By connecting the router to the Mx2wire unit found on a different floor, it is now possible to connect computers or other devices to the Internet via WLAN.

Using patented Mobotix technology, the two Mx2wire units are automatically configured as a sender or receiver

IP telephone: Standard telephones can also be replaced by Internet telephones in any home with a DSL connection and a computer. Mx2wire transforms your analog telephone line into a network connection that can transport both data and power for your telephone. Old telephones can therefore be replaced trouble-free by modern Internet telephones that are powered from a switch via Mx2wire.

IP door station: With Mx2wire, you can easily replace a simple doorbell with a modern Internet-enabled door intercom.
