Allied Universal has announced that Michael Matz, the branch manager for their Long Island, New York location, has received the Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense's Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
This recognition highlights Matz's outstanding leadership and consistent support of military reserve employees.
Recognition for Military Support
Michael Matz was specifically recognized for his dedication to employees serving in the military reserves. Thomas Mahoney, a client portfolio manager at Allied Universal and the individual who nominated Matz, was deployed to the U.S./Mexico border during the holiday season of 2026.
During Mahoney's deployment, Matz kept in frequent contact with Mahoney’s family, ensuring they received necessary support and assistance.
Commitment to Families
"I am honored to receive ESGR's Patriot Award. Taking care of our employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve is something that I take great pride in," Matz stated. "When team members are called to serve our country, their families make great sacrifices. We want to help ensure that these families are given the support they deserve."
A Legacy of Service
Mahoney is a long-serving member of the U.S. National Guard and Reserve, having dedicated 24 years and served as a machinery technician chief at Base Cape Cod.
His service includes 10 deployments, such as missions in Kuwait, and on rescue teams after Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti earthquake.

"I was compelled to nominate Michael for the exceptional support he provided my family, as well as his dedication to the entire Long Island branch team," Mahoney expressed. "I am incredibly grateful for the consistent communication he maintained with my family, ensuring they were doing well while I was away from my wife and children. Mike exemplifies true leadership through his dedication to his employees, especially those serving in the military reserves."
The award was officially presented by Joseph Kruk, CMSgt, USAF (Ret.), who serves as an ESGR Volunteer in New York.
