The European Commission has granted approval for funding by the European Defence Fund (EDF) to the defense industry Consortium FAMOUS2. This initiative is dedicated to advancing European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems. A successor to the original FAMOUS project, FAMOUS2 focuses on developing modular ground vehicles and incorporating enabling technologies, with an emphasis on sustainable green technology.
Collaborative Effort Across Nations
Arquus, already a member of the Consortium from the initial FAMOUS project, is pleased to continue its collaboration in FAMOUS2. The project is coordinated by Finland’s Patria and includes major partners such as the French defense company Nexter and 15 other companies spanning Finland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Norway, Latvia, and Denmark.
EU Funding and Support
Backed by nine countries, including France, this project will receive nearly 95 million Euros in funding from the European Union. This endeavor marks a significant milestone in European defense industrial cooperation and represents an important commitment for Arquus, which aims to participate in a highly ambitious land defense program set to influence the future of European land defense capabilities.
Developing Next-Generation Armored Platforms
The mission of FAMOUS2 is to develop technological foundations for the next generation of armored platforms and to upgrade current models such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), light armored vehicles (LAVs), and Main Battle Tanks (MBTs). It builds upon the research initiated during the precursor EDIDP 2020 FAMOUS project. The FAMOUS2 project is expected to commence by 2023 and conclude by 2026, with a strong focus on vehicle architecture followed by the design, construction, and testing of prototypes.
Arquus’s Role and Expertise
As an expert in light and medium armored vehicles, as well as propulsion and energy management, Arquus is set to play a critical role in the FAMOUS2 project. The company will concentrate on aspects of vehicle architecture, mobility, and power, contributing to the enhancement of capabilities and fostering innovation and collaboration amongst key European defense entities.
