AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry’s premier provider of highly trained security personnel, will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar, Making the Case: Preventing Violence in the Healthcare Industry, on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The seminar will take place at CHOC Children’s Hospital – Wade Educational Center, 1201 W. La Veta Ave., Orange, CA. Lunch will be provided.
“More than 60 percent of all nonfatal workplace assaults occur in hospitals, nursing homes, residential care facilities, and other social-services locations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, making this a critical sector for security and prevention,” said speaker Ken Bukowski, Vice President of Healthcare, AlliedBarton Security Services. “One of the most essential elements in winning the battle of workplace violence prevention in healthcare is to open the channels of communication within the industry and build relationships with outside resources such as local law enforcement, to better protect staff, patients and visitors.”
“ALiCE (Alert, Lock-down, Inform, Counter and Evacuate) workplace violence prevention training is quickly becoming a new standard across the nation,” said presenter Bret Bandick, Trainer, The ALiCE Training Institute. “Research shows that hospital shootings are actually more common than the more highly publicized school shootings. Because of the unique environment a hospital poses, including individuals unable to evacuate immediately or family members and loved ones who may not be prepared to leave the bedside of a patient, it is important that we prepare and train hospital staff to protect themselves and save others.”
“There is great value to establishing a partnership between local law enforcement, security and community groups when addressing the safety and security of your people and property,” said speaker Cynthia L. Conner, Lieutenant, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, County Services Bureau. “By collaborating through effective communication and partnership, we can decrease the risk of an incident happening.”
“If an incident does take place, you need to be prepared for how to handle the situation after the crisis calms down,” said presenter Diana L. Courteau, Principal, Courteau & Associates. “You need to consider the liability aspects, employee morale, what attention was brought to this publicly, and how to accurately assess claims and liability.”
