Construction security specialist Octavian Security has won the contract to provide services to contractors working on a multi-million-pound road scheme in Nottinghamshire.

Engineering and construction giant Balfour Beatty has appointed Octavian to provide static and mobile services as it delivers the A46 Newark to Widmerpool Improvement Scheme.

The assignment will require a team of security officers working across a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year rota system to ensure that access to the main compound, at the former RAF Newton, is gained only by authorized personnel and traffic.

Officers will not only monitor traffic and record details, they will also make regular site checks and nightly plant checks, while dedicated Octavian vehicles will be utilised to carry out mobile patrols at intervals agreed with the client.

And as Octavian is one of a very limited number of security companies that have an in-house training and development school accredited as a City & Guilds and BIIAB centre, officers will receive a site-specific induction.

Octavian CEO Sukhi Ghuman commented: "The announcement of the go-ahead of the £365 million improvement project was welcomed by many businesses and residents in the area as it should assist in economic growth.

"We are delighted that Balfour Beatty has appointed Octavian Security to provide security services to help ensure that the construction scheme goes ahead without issues."

The improvement scheme, planned to be completed by Summer 2012, involves the design and construction of a new 28km dual carriageway from the A606 junction at Widmerpool to an improved roundabout at Farndon, which is just south of Newark.

Balfour Beatty Project Director, Tony Dixon, commented: "This is a prestigious Highways Agency scheme and Balfour Beatty look forward to a successful and safe completion of the project with the support of Octavian Security."

Octavian has extensive experience working within the construction industry and has provided qualified and trained staff to numerous projects carried out by clients including Bovis Lend Lease, Clegg Construction, Morgan Ashurst and the Kier Group.
