Evolv Technology has announced a new collaboration with Sporting Kansas City, implementing its AI-driven screening systems at the Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Major League Soccer team has opted for the Evolv Express® technology to enhance weapons detection as fans enter the stadium, which can host over 20,000 spectators for soccer events. The installation of the Express systems was completed in February, in time for Sporting KC's 2024 home opener.
Advanced Sensor Technology
The Evolv Express system is renowned for using advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence to discern between potential threats and everyday metal items such as keys or sunglasses. This innovation allows fans to pass through entrance gates more swiftly compared to traditional metal detectors, which had been in use until this recent upgrade by Sporting KC.
"We saw across Major League Soccer how pleased fans are with the ingress process provided by Evolv," stated Dan Lolli, Sporting KC's chief operating officer. "We are constantly working to improve the fan experience at Children’s Mercy Park, and Evolv is a key component in enhancing the very first interaction fans have with our property on a match day while also increasing their safety."
Improving Fan Experience
Since its introduction in 2019, Evolv Express has facilitated screening for over 1 billion people
The decision to implement Evolv Express was influenced by Sporting KC’s experience at the 2023 MLS Operations Meetings, where the system's efficacy was demonstrated. Feedback from other organizations using the Express system played a significant role as well. Beyond Major League Soccer, various hospitals in the Kansas City area have also successfully adopted Evolv for weapons detection purposes.
"There's a championship vibe in Kansas City right now on the heels of the Super Bowl, and KC sports fans expect a preeminent experience from their teams on and off the field," commented John Baier, Evolv Technology's vice president of sports. "Sporting KC is committed to the safety and security of all guests, and fans will be delighted with a speedy and seamless entry when attending home matches this season."
Weapons Detection Experience
Since its introduction in 2019, Evolv Express has facilitated screening for over 1 billion people. Numerous sports facilities both in the United States and globally, including 10 MLS teams and several forthcoming World Cup 2026 venues, have adopted Evolv’s systems for enhanced weapons detection. The technology is also utilized across a variety of establishments such as theme parks, performing arts centers, casinos, educational institutions, hospitals, and religious venues.
