Mayflex’s Network And Electronic Security Solution Helps Deter Crime In East Stoke Village In Nottinghamshire

AIS utilized wireless and IP solution services from Fluidmesh and Mayflex respectively

East Stoke village in Nottinghamshire became the first village in the country to win the “Secured by Design" award in March 2011 and is now crime free thanks to its newly installed IP surveillance system. 

Fed up with the crime rates, residents of East Stoke raised £50,000 in a bid to create the first crime-free place in the country, as featured on the Crimewatch Roadshow earlier in the year.

A total of 12 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras covering the whole of the village have been installed, three which have automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology.  East Stoke worked with AIS Total Security Ltd to install their IP surveillance system which covers the busy A46 road between Nottingham and Newark and all of the side roads in the village. 

The biggest challenge of the project wasn’t the installation of the cameras it was ensuring that the images could be easily viewed by selected village residents and the local police authority.  The video streams would need to be reliably transmitted over a long distance and so they needed to find the right solution.

AIS Total Security chose to use Fluidmesh and sourced the products from Mayflex, a distributor of infrastructure, networking and electronic security solutions.  Working together, it was agreed that the FM2200 wireless mesh networking product would meet all of the project requirements.

The Fluidmesh 2200 is the only wireless mesh networking product designed and manufactured specifically for video-surveillance applications. The Fluidmesh 2200 series not only transmits the video streams coming from the cameras directly attached to it, but also dynamically routes packets coming from other Fluidmesh units through the optimal path.

As reported on Crimewatch, the CCTV cameras, which are placed in most vantage points in the village, have proved to be a real bonus.  They not only ensure that police have the ability to detect any crime that happens after the event, as relevant people can view the footage as and when needed at the remote location, but they are a massive deterrent creating a much safer place to live.
