Today, the average life expectancy in Western Europe is over 80 years and it will continue to increase in the future thanks to medical progress and improved social and economic conditions. As a result, there are more and more demands for senior-friendly products and services. These include everyday goods and services as well as convenient security solutions which need to be practical and easy to use.
The brief:
The Am Bachgraben retirement and assisted living center in Allschwil and Schönenbuch, Switzerland is home for over 200 elderly residents located across several residential buildings. The facility offers around-the-clock care and support for the elderly in a secure and comfortable environment. To ensure a high level of security for residents, the owners were looking for a cost-effective, easy-to-use and standardized access control system to eliminate existing disparate badge technologies and several software components that did not fit well together. The system needed to be available in both online and offline modes for use by staff and residents as well as capable of handling time & attendance recording for personnel scheduling and rostering.
The solution:
In order to implement a keyless access control system across the buildings complete with time & attendance recording, the center decided to use the Interflex IF-6020 management system with LEGIC badges. This would be combined with PegaSys 300 offline terminals and Interflex IF-600 and IF-71 online terminals to gain access to buildings and individual rooms.

The IF-6020 Management system is perfect for this type of complex application. Its unique versatility and adaptability reduces the daily effort required for post-processing and corrective actions. It takes care of access control, time & attendance recording and staff rostering for 400 people. The strength of the solution lies in its customized usage options and its combination of online and offline components. Authorized staff or residents can enter or access cloakrooms, security safes, medicine cupboards, rooms, room safes, lifts or letterboxes all via one customized access control card which is unique to them.
Details of who has access and the relevant authorizations of particular individuals are stored in the software and monitored by administrators. As this is maintained in a central office and requires no visit to individual terminals, it involves minimal effort, saving both time and money.
The necessary access data is written to personalized badges which are then printed in-house to include the retirement home‘s logo. Should a badge be lost, authorizations are simply deleted in the system and a replacement badge is issued. This renders the lost card totally useless and ensures that the retirement village remains secure.
The new system is both versatile and easy-to-use by even the most ‘technophobic’ user. Residents and staff alike benefit from high levels of safety and security with minimal day-to-day disruption and inconvenience and total peace of mind.
