Milestone XProtect Expert 2016 enables the prison staff to proactively respond to potential incidents Milestone Systems, the open platform company in network video management software (VMS), has joined forces with Security Center (Öryggismiðstöðin) and Verkís to provide an advanced security solution for Holmsheidi Prison in Reykjavik, Iceland. The solution combines Milestone XProtect Expert 2016 with CIAS fence and microwave detection systems. Completed in 2015, Holmsheidi Prison is Iceland’s new high security women’s prison. Located in the outskirts of the capital Reykjavik, the premises cover roughly 9 acres, while the building with its 56 cells covers 3,700 sq.m. Uninterrupted Video Recording To cater to the advanced security needs of the facility, Milestone XProtect Expert 2016 enables the prison staff to proactively respond to potential incidents. The needs for high availability are ensured by the failover technology and uninterrupted video recording capabilities in the Milestone VMS. XProtect 2016 boasts several features designed to reduce the overall cost of ownership and offers unlimited expandability thanks to the use of open platform technology. This enables Holmsheidi Prison to be in greater control of their surveillance investment now and in the future. Integrated CIAS Fence And Microwave Detection Systems "We have collaborated with multiple contractors and partners on this project" Icelandic project management and engineering firm Verkís is responsible for the project’s Building Management System and has designed the electrical, lighting, and security systems.Security Center, an Icelandic security services company, provides the alarm and fence systems for the project, hereunder the integrated CIAS fence and microwave detection systems. This integration is made possible through CIAS’ IB-System IP technology, a data collection system that works as an integration server and can manage up to 1280 different sensors. Efficient Security And Alarm Systems “Thanks to Milestone’s open platform technology, we have collaborated with multiple contractors and partners on this project,” says Lars Wilson, Regional Sales Manager Nordics at Milestone Systems. “By gathering future proof solutions from different vendors, we are able to provide the state of the art security and alarm systems necessary for managing a high security prison.”
Last Mile with Westcon Power & Automation AS will deliver video solution based on XProtect Milestone Systems, the open platform company in IP video management software (VMS), is highlighting an initiative lead by Last Mile Communication to fit ships and drill rigs with advanced video systems based on Milestone XProtect® to improve safety in maritime working environments. Together with the Norwegian naval service provider Westcon Power and Automation AS, Last Mile Communication is able to deliver an end-to-end video solution based on Milestone XProtect open platform technology, for use in the harsh nautical milieu. This is very different from most land-based solutions because all marine installations have to be able to withstand high levels of corrosion, vibrations, shock and extreme temperatures, while at the same time be highly resilient and provide non-stop operations. Video Analytics To Improve Safety The benefits of digital video in a naval context are numerous. There is the security aspect where video can be used to monitor and alert to safety issues for the crew on deck or below, using heavy machinery, and performing maintenance or during emergencies. The video views of crane operations in particular enable not only a higher level of safety but also assist the crane operators to work faster and more precisely as the video helps them see where loads are being placed. Equipment can also be monitored by thermal cameras to avoid overheating. Spills of oil or dangerous chemicals can be detected using video, as well. Video analytics can further be used to improve safety when thermal cameras detect objects in the water, for example, or to provide better customer service on passenger ships. The old-fashioned analog solutions traditionally used in naval applications lack the integration abilities that today’s digital systems provide. Using a digital open platform solution not only allows video analytics, remote operations and interconnected components, but also give the freedom to choose the right hardware for optimal performance in each demanding situation. Highly Flexible Solution "The Milestone open platform technology is the core for our design of the Marine Visual Systems solution, which is globally available now" Last Mile Communication has based their Maritime Vision System on Milestone XProtect® Corporate VMS for a highly flexible solution that can easily be adapted to fit each customer’s requirements. The video solution consists of infrastructure components from Westermo and cameras from Siqura and Tecnovideo. Through encoders from Siqura the software can also control legacy analog devices such as HernisPTZ cameras. “The Milestone open platform technology is the core for our design of the Marine Visual Systems solution, which is globally available now,” says Erik Sandsdalen, CEO at Last Mile Communication. “We have been able to create an extremely flexible and robust solution thanks to Milestone Systems technology. We are able to pick the optimal cameras and infrastructure elements for every situation. Come see this at the Nor-Shipping trade show in Oslo June 2-5.” Milestone Systems Supporting The Marine Visual Systems Initiative Milestone Systems has been actively supporting the Marine Visual Systems initiative from the very start. “This is a fantastic example of the power and dynamics in the Milestone partner eco-system, enabling innovation like that of Last Mile Communication to address new business segment needs with the best available technology on the market – now and sailing forward,” says Lars Wilson, Nordic Sales Manager for Milestone Systems. “We are convinced that video enabling the naval market will have very big benefits for improvements in safety and operational efficiency.”
