Elizabeth France CBE, Security Industry Authority Chair, announces the appointment of Ian Todd as SIA Chief Executive. Ian succeeds Dave Humphries who has been interim CEO since the departure of former SIA CEO Alan Clamp at the end of October. Ian will join the SIA on 25 February 2019. Ian will be joining the SIA from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) where he is currently Deputy Director General. This builds on a number of board level roles in professional regulation, including the health and legal sectors. Focus On Public Protection He has also spent time in central government, including the Cabinet Office. Ian has extensive experience of dealing with the public in a frontline role as his first career was with the NHS ambulance services. Throughout his near 15 years he was a qualified paramedic and held a number of roles to Director level, including as part of the Gold command team during 7/7. Ian will build on our work with government, the private security industry, and our other stakeholders to maintain a focus on public protection" Elizabeth France said: "I am delighted to welcome Ian as the SIA's future Chief Executive. Ms France added: "I thank Dave Humphries for his steady leadership since Alan Clamp's departure in October. He has ensured that the SIA has continued to move forward strategically and operationally." Dave will continue at the helm until Ian arrives at the end of February. The Security Industry Authority (SIA), the government regulator of the private security industry in the UK, has formerly endorsed the Register of Chartered Security Professionals. The Register was established under Royal Charter issued to the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals in the UK.  Admission to the Register signifies the highest standards and ongoing proficiency in security practice.  Alan Clamp, Chief Executive of the SIA said: “The Register of Chartered Security Professionals aligns with the SIA’s objective of raising standards in the private security industry. As the regulator, the SIA recognizes that chartered status for security operatives and the maintenance of the Register is an important milestone in increasing professionalism of those working in private security.” Importance Of Chartered Status For Security Professionals The Register is managed on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals Lord Carlile CBE QC of Berriew, Chairman of Chartered Security Professionals Registration Authority (CSPRA) said: ‘’The Chartered body welcomes the support of the SIA. This endorsement confirms the importance of Chartered Status as the kite mark of professional excellence for the best men and women in the growing security industry. It gives customers an understanding of who the most respected professionals are, and requires of those professionals that they adhere to a Code of Conduct comparable with the other professions, such as Law, Accountancy and Medicine.’’ In line with other Chartered Professions, Chartered Security Professionals are required to conform to a code of conduct, disciplinary process and undertake continuous professional development. The Register is managed on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals by the UK’s Security Institute.  Applications for admission to the Register can be made via two licensed bodies, the Security Institute and ASIS UK Chapter 208.

At the meeting IPSA made several new appointment The International Professional Security Association (IPSA) held its 2015 Annual General Meeting this week at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, London. The occasion marked the completion of Mike White’s four years as Chairman of the Association and included the election of the Association’s International Council, who appointed Mr Stuart Naisbett as the new Chairman. IPSA Made Appointments Stuart Naisbett has been an active member of the Association since the early 1980’s, originally in the London and South East Region and then on the International Council, while working as a security controller at Centuryan Security, before his career progressed, including working as General Manager for Elizabethan Security and later as Operations Director at Mison Security. Since 2002 he has worked as an independent security consultant. Other appointments are Jane Farrell, Center of Excellence Development Manager at Sodexo Ltd, who has been appointed Deputy Chairman and Ian Pugh, Head of Security at Bilfinger Europa Facility Management Ltd, who has taken Stuart’s previous role as Honorary Treasurer. Mike White, the previous Chairman, and Una Riley, the previous Deputy Chairman, both remain on the Management Board along with Simon Pears. SIA Welcomes New Chief Executive The AGM was combined with a networking luncheon followed by industry talks from both Steve Martin of the Fire and Security Association and Elizabeth France, Chairman of the Security Industry Authority, who used the opportunity to introduce the new Chief Executive of the SIA, Alan Clamp, who was attending the event as his first opportunity to meet the security industry on only his fourth day at the SIA. Following the talks, Alan Clamp and Elizabeth France both took questions from the audience, giving IPSA members an insight into their thoughts for the future direction of the SIA.
