The London security company, SavySec Security has pioneered a brand new approach to building security and guard duty with an attractive new role for security professionals. The company, which supplies professional, highly trained SIA licensed security personnel to clients in London and surrounding areas, has launched an utterly unique ‘get paid to sleep’ service.
Bespoke, ground breaking and with an exceptional level of care for both the client and the guard, Get Paid To Sleep by SavySec is the equivalent of house sitting but for business clients. It sees the firm place a trained guard on the premises overnight, every night and pays them to remain on site until morning. As part of its package and commitment to making the shift attractive for security personnel and rewarding for its staff, SavySec encourages clients to provide study facilities such as a desk for its personnel and a place to sleep and shower.
Many of its security professionals opt for the house sit detail because it allows them quiet time to study for further exams, means they earn money around the clock and means they can juggle other commitments without compromising on income. The idea came about after a request from a client.
Founded by young entrepreneur James Johns, now 27 years old, who left school with no formal qualifications after struggling with dyslexia and dyspraxia, SavySec Security is a specialist manned guarding and event security agency and now has 60 people actively working every week and turns over more than half a million pounds a year. James says his company and the industry thrives on the good nature of security staff and adaptability, rather than muscle. It’s this belief that led to his Get Paid To Sleep concept. He saw a gap in the market a year ago when a client needed his office protected from break in attempts, but could justify the cost of a full time member of staff. James offered to put the word out if any of his sub-contracted security wanted to “house sit” the office building for a set fee, on the agreement that the security could either study during the night, or sleep on sofa. The client was overjoyed when James promised that if he could not find someone interested, he’d do it himself.

He said, “At first we couldn’t find anyone at all then one of our great female guards who happened to be a single mom offered and said she could leave her kids at her mums over night without worrying, as long as we could be flexible to her schedule. The lady realised she could earn £60.00 for a night’s work, get some sleep, still function in the morning without compromising her children’s needs, and she told everyone after a week how this unbelievable opportunity had saved her from being out of work. After that we were inundated with requests for this role.”
“People who would work for other companies in the day would house sit straight after they finished their shift, then work again in the morning. This was only possible due to the peace of mind of the more relaxed role. Some would hand in their months’ notice to their landlord, and come straight to “house sit” instead for a month at a time. They would be making money every hour of the day, without the expense of rent. The clients could not be happier either. Although we sometimes need to charge a little bit more on weekends, we still save clients several hundred pounds a month on conventional security staffing. Most of our guards are ex-army or come from private security and bodyguard backgrounds wanting to earn a little extra cash in the evenings. We also run daytime building guardian services much like a live- in security solution.”“Our first rule in taking on any of these jobs is: The more attractive the role can be to a guard, the more attractive the rate can be to the client. We defiantly do not take on any job; those who want security at illegal rates to sit all night on a cold warehouse floor are told quickly it’s something we will not provide. Some clients go above and beyond and will provide a room, a clean desk for security that want to study, a bed and bedding as well as shower facilities. For total peace of mind for our clients, we do check calls and state of alertness tests to ensure a best in class service as well as routine nightly visits.”
