Together with the Tetra network operator Stadtwerke München (SWM), Airbus will once again equip the 56th edition of the Munich Security Conference with high performance, tap-proof radio technology. The Tetra system – which has been completely migrated to IP technology – with Taira switch centers and a geo-redundant solution – will be used for the first time.

By using this system, the organizers of this important security policy event have once again opted for a modern, reliable, and proven technology to ensure the security of its participants, whether they are politicians, business users, or the media. “Airbus has supported us since 2012 with extremely reliable mobile radio services. We have therefore decided to extend our contract with Airbus until 2021 in order to ensure that we have the support we need for our annual conference in Munich”, explains Benedikt Franke, MSC Chief Operating Officer.

Increased security precautions

Once again, many guests, both from Germany and from overseas, are expected to attend this year’s event

Separate base stations (TB3c and TB3hp) will be connected to the existing SWM radio network especially for the conference. A third operational base station will be used for side events in the Greater Munich area. SWM is making Airbus’ TH1n – the smallest Tetra radio in the world – simultaneously available to conference staff and operational teams. The device is particularly suitable for undercover operations and has proved its effectiveness at the MSC for many years.

With the help of secure radio technology, both security and conference personnel, as well as Bundeswehr employees, will be able to communicate securely throughout the entire event, as the radio system has special encryption features due to increased security precautions. This will ensure that all tasks relating to organizational support at the conference will be fulfilled efficiently and effectively.

Future security policy challenges

The Munich Security Conference, founded in 1963, has developed over the years to become one of the key conferences for foreign affairs and security policy. Every year, it provides high-ranking decision-makers from all over the world with a forum for ground-breaking discussions on current and future security policy challenges. Once again, many guests, both from Germany and from overseas, are expected to attend this year’s event.
