To enable a fast and secure communication among the organizing personnel during the biathlon world championships 2016 in Oslo Holmenkollen, Airbus Defense and Space has provided Tetra technology. 260 Airbus Defense and Space Tetra radios THR9i and THR880i are in use at the World Cup 2016, as well as 26 base stations and several RCS9500. The local Tetra network operator is TC Connect Norway.
From March 2 to 13, the International Biathlon Union (IBU), organizing the competition, has to coordinate many helping hands, such as doctors, drivers, security staff and the jury to ensure a smooth course of action. Therefore, a reliable and resilient professional mobile radio communication network is indispensable.
“We appreciate that Airbus Defense and Space contributes to our significant tournament. The organizing committee relies on a radio communication infrastructure that had stood the test of time at other large sports events”, says Erik Trosby, Chief of Communications at Oslo2016, the local organizing committee. It expects thousands of visitors at the Holmenkollen site in Oslo. Airbus Defense and Space already supported successfully the Nordic Ski World Cup in Falun, Sweden in 2015 with similar communication services.
Besides Tetra radios and accessories, the Airbus Defense and Space DXT3c switch is used in Oslo. It has in-built redundancy and offers high availability of radio network capacity. Moreover, the robust mobile radio devices were developed for critical voice and data communication. They are particularly known and chosen for their ease of use and intuitive operation.
