The Theatre will deliver a range of essential CPD accredited presentations on cutting-edge subjects that are key to technical security professionals. Renowned for over ten years as the ‘Tavcom Theatre’, this year, following an extensive research program, show organisers UBM have rebranded the theatre to meet with the theme for the event. ‘The Future of Security Training Theatre’ will be a major element in the new ‘Show Me How’ project at IFSEC 2018, which will identify educational opportunities where visitors can learn about industry best practice and capabilities. The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) publishes findings of new industry research undertaken by Perpetuity Research into the benefits and challenges of automating confirmed alarm signaling from Alarm Receiving Centers (ARCs) to police control rooms. The independent research - conducted via an online survey and extensive one-to-one interviews with a wide range of industry professionals including representatives from Alarm Receiving Centers (ARCs) - assesses the advantages and disadvantages of automating signaling over and above current practice, the potential impact on ARCs, the police, owners of alarmed property/premises and other interested stakeholder groups, as well as the potential for further future enhancement as technology evolves. ECHO aims to improve standards and effectiveness in the deployment of police responders, through reducing time and improving accuracy in the handling of alarm signals Automated Electronic Call Handling Service The report findings reflect industry and stakeholder views at a time when ECHO – for ECHO read ‘Electronic Call Handling Operations Ltd’ - is developing the concept behind its strategy to deliver by 2020 a fully automated electronic call handling service, between all ARCS and police forces, in line with NPCC aims. ECHO, recently formed by the British Security Industry Association, the Fire Industry Association and the Fire and Security Association as an independent not-for–profit company limited by guarantee, aims to improve standards and effectiveness in the deployment of police responders, through reducing time and improving accuracy in the handling of alarm signals. This Perpetuity Research study identifies a number of areas to be addressed in further automation of alarm signaling. These include the technical challenges and the funding mechanism to put such a service onto a sustainable footing. Findings And Recommendations By Research Report In addition, the research highlights the value of raising awareness of the ECHO initiative across industry, full consultation with all parties in the design and development of an automated service to ensure the solution accommodates the diversity in police IT networks, and future proofing. One of the significant findings of the research is the extent to which the current lack of awareness about aspirations to automate alarm signaling by the police is hindering industry’s ability to effectively develop its response. Looking ahead the report recommendations set out a series of steps which might further inform and strengthen industry’s approach, including: raising awareness of the ECHO ‘project’ assessing of police capability nationally to implement automation considering future possible enhancements to the content of alarm signal transmission e.g. CCTV streaming, and signaling applications over and above intruder alarm signaling. The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) has launched a new edition of its CCTV code of practice – for the design, installation and maintenance of CCTV surveillance systems - NCP 104 Issue 3. This edition includes guidance on protecting systems from cyber risks, and emphasises the importance of thoroughly assessing customer security risks and requirements when developing CCTV system design. Customer Assurance Customers buying CCTV surveillance systems designed, installed and maintained to comply with this latest edition can be assured of: security needs being fully assessed, documented and agreed prior to any design work; system design addressing agreed security needs, usability and operating requirements including network (cyber) security; thorough validation and testing of the CCTV system; appropriate user training; fully documented maintenance requirements. The new NCP 104 provides installers with detailed recommendations and guidance to be followed as part of delivering a CCTV system design and ensures the sustainability, functionality and effectiveness of a system. Notable points for installers The Code: is in line with the latest standard BS EN 62676-4:2015, (the current application guidelines for the use of video surveillance systems in security applications), but simplifies the process of system development and testing, by omitting specific requirements regarding system grading and the use of some specific image testing requirements introduces requirements for design areas such as network (cyber) security, detectors, video analysis, audio and cabling, that are not covered by in BS EN 62676-4 and also covering current technologies and terminology stands alone from BS 8418 which relates to the installation of remotely monitored detector activated CCTV systems. NSI’s Head of Technical Services, Tony Weeks said “Customers can rely on installers working with the new Issue 3 of the NSI Code to fully document and understand their requirements, so that CCTV system design is fit for purpose. The ‘scale-ability’ of the Code means it can help deliver best practice from the smallest to the most complex of installations.” The new edition supersedes NCP 104 Issue 2, which will be withdrawn from use on 30 April 2019. Customers seeking the compliance with the new Code prior to this date should check with their NSI approved installer.
