The renowned intelligent video redaction tool, Pixelate by Ocucon, has been updated with a range of AI features that makes protecting members of the public in CCTV footage quicker and easier, while giving more control to the end-user. Pixelate 3 with auto-detection Pixelate 3 has introduced auto-detection and additional functionality, such as a zoom in/out ability, as well as improving on the existing ground-breaking features of this web-based software, including: GDPR compliance – Including auditable log of video redaction and UK processed data Intelligent automated redaction – Built on AI, this feature quickly blurs out individuals Suitable for all types of camera footage, including body-worn cameras Quick upload via easy-to-use web-based portal with new, updated user dashboard Significantly reduced redaction time compared to manual video redaction methods Intelligent video redaction service The update has come as the demand for subject access requests for CCTV footage is set to increase, with the general public’s awareness of GDPR laws continuing to rise. Any member of the public can request footage of themselves, however other individuals featured in the footage must be concealed, blurred, or pixelated to hide their identity. Whereas existing outsourced redaction services are time consuming and costly, Ocucon’s intelligent video redaction service allows users to quickly redact CCTV files via Pixelate’s secure web-based portal for a fraction of the cost, with monthly subscriptions starting from as little as £20 per month. Deploying AI technology Gary Trotter, Co-Founder and CEO of Ocucon said, “We are proud to launch this latest version of Pixelate. After listening to feedback from our clients, the team has worked tirelessly to create a smoother, quicker, and easier experience for users to redact people and sensitive information in CCTV footage.” Ocucon is currently delivering a number of confidential pilots for major supermarkets and retail chains He adds, “Pixelate truly is unique in its offering and Ocucon continues to research and develop AI technology that will only make GDPR compliance even easier and smarter in the future.” Cloud-based storage and retrieval platform Since its launch in 2018, Pixelate has redacted over 8,500 faces in 1,429 minutes of footage across 367 different videos. Customers who already use Ocucon’s powerful, cloud-based storage and retrieval platform also have full access to Ocucon Pixelate and can select video clips to redact from within the cloud. Recognized by top business awards for its digital technology innovation, Ocucon combines intelligent data analytics with the facility to store, analyze and retrieve unlimited amounts of HD video surveillance footage from within the Ocucon cloud-based portal. Since its launch, Ocucon has seen significant interest in both the UK and US, and is currently delivering a number of confidential pilots for major supermarkets and retail chains.
Some time ago Occupi by Ocucon didn’t exist. In that time, the retail technology company has worked tirelessly to enable retailers to comply with social distancing guidelines, whilst keeping their productivity high, and shoppers’ queuing times as low as possible. Occupi by Ocucon uses technology embedded in door mounted video cameras to coordinate and control the flow of shoppers both in and out of retail stores. Aldi launched Occupi ‘traffic light’ After securing business from nearly 1,500 stores, Ocucon is surveying a market opportunity in the UK of billions. And the US, which is worth an estimated £5 billion, looks set to follow. Earlier Aldi launched the new Occupi ‘traffic light’ system in stores across the UK and Ireland in the supermarket chain’s latest measure to keep customers and their staff as safe as possible during the ongoing pandemic. Already another 150 retail multiples have contacted Ocucon in a desperate rush to place orders as crowds head to their newly re-opened stores. Authorizing entry to shops Far more than a people counting system, the technology is capable of marshaling shoppers into groups as it authorizes and allows entry into the store, ensuring social distancing can be followed inside. This means opening stores can accelerate the entry of shoppers in the morning before moving onto a one person out one person in strategy. The automatic shop doors will only open when the signage permits entry and the number of customers allowed in the store at any one time will be calculated based on the shop’s size and social distancing requirements – allowing people to remain two meters apart at all times. More than just people counting The system can also control the number of shoppers in a store at any one time and its deep learning algorithm is constantly analyzing so it knows how many people are in store at any given time which it compares with entry and departure numbers. This results in unparalleled accuracy – something that can’t be achieved by basic in-out people counting products. Occupi by Ocucon is working with ASSA ABLOY, the UK’s supplier of physical door controls (locks, door entry and closure systems) to the retail sector, and Videcon, the UK’s manufacturer of specialist CCTV camera systems and related technologies. Solution for retail industry Gary Trotter, Ocucon’s Founder and CEO said, “We pioneered the development of Occupi by Ocucon by working together with Aldi and ASSA ABLOY. I can’t think of a time when two entirely separate, but world organizations, would throw their collective weight behind the development of a concept like this in such a short time.” He continued, “We are in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and there was an incredible spirit of collaboration and innovation in the way everyone came together. We were lucky to have a client in Aldi who asked us for help and lucky to have the technological expertise and partners to help us deliver what I believe is a truly ground breaking solution for retailers.”
Video surveillance company Ocucon launches a new technology that cleverly monitors the number of people going in and out of a store, automatically shutting the entrance when the occupancy threshold is met. Occupi by Ocucon is a response to a growing need for controlled entry to retail stores during the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing has meant many retailers are spending thousands of pounds a week per store on extra security personnel to manage store entrances and exits. Occupi by Ocucon presents an opportunity for retailers to save millions of pounds per year and provides a return on investment that can be achieved within weeks. Deep learning technology The technology works on an automated traffic light system. Managers can set a maximum number of customers in their store, and when that is met, the traffic light system, visible to customers, at the entrance will turn red and the automatic doors will not open. Using Deep Learning technology to identify people and count them entering and exiting the store, the system allows for a fully-automated, unmanned control over the store occupancy level. Ocucon are providing a ‘Rapid Deployment’ solution that will be easy to install and configure. Occupi is controlled through a remote connection via the cloud, which allows individual store managers to change the occupancy level at any time, to respond to events on site and control the flow of customers. Signage will be provided to inform customers of the store and make them aware of how the system works. Guided installation process Our guided installation process means that Occupi will be remotely configured, monitored and controlled" Gary Trotter, Co-Founder of Ocucon, says, “I am thrilled to bring a truly innovative and beneficial product like Occupi by Ocucon to the market during this difficult time. We know that the crowd control measures in place in stores around the country will not go away any time soon, so this newly developed technology will help both customers and staff stay safe by adhering to social distancing guidelines, as well as helping save retailers millions of pounds for years to come.” “It is our goal to help retailers in these challenging times to reduce costs and improve customer safety. Our guided installation process means that Occupi will be remotely configured, monitored and controlled so managers can instantly set occupancy levels and start saving money straight away.” Crowd control measures The technology will be welcomed by retailers in the UK as they continue to manage the sale of food and essential supplies to the public while keeping customers and staff safe. Most stores that are still trading have crowd control measures in place, mainly in the form of manned entrances and exits, which increases the costs for retailers. Occupi by Ocucon will reduce the need for staff to maintain access to the store, thus removing human error from occupancy levels. Occupi by Ocucon is available now.
Technology company Ocucon has developed a lighter version of their VSaaS product, Cloud by Ocucon, allowing retailers to now benefit from innovative cloud technology for a select number of cameras. Cirrus Cloud by Ocucon is a lightweight, highly flexible version of Cloud by Ocucon. It will have all the features of its bigger brother but, in response to retailer demand, it has been optimized to work in a modular fashion for up to eight cameras per store. In-store surveillance and storage Research conducted by the company found that 99% of incidents were caught by just a third of all cameras in a typical retail outlet. This means that on average just eight cameras caught the ‘sweet spot’ of incidents. Cirrus Cloud by Ocucon provides an in-store surveillance and storage service in HD, captured continuously over a 24/7 period, in the cloud for up to eight cameras per store. We see this as an opportunity to introduce our ground-breaking technology to an increased variety of clients" The service will also provide an incident and case management reporting tool that will enable easy access, analysis and retrieval of incidents. Gary Trotter, Co-Founder of Ocucon said: “We are always listening to feedback from our clients and we realized that by re-investing in new technology, we could offer this exciting new product to suit a wider range of retailers and their needs." Easy access surveillance storage "Cirrus Cloud works in a modular fashion, so that we can ensure that the footage from those ‘sweet spot’ cameras can be easily stored, analyzed and retrieved. We see this as an opportunity to introduce our ground-breaking technology to an increased variety of clients both on a national and international scale.” Ocucon developed Cloud by Ocucon, their unlimited VSaaS system to address the need for easy access surveillance storage, to avoid fraudulent cases of slips, trips and falls – currently estimated to cost retailers £800m a year. The technology removes physical limitations on the amount of surveillance footage an organization can save. Delivering a powerful, cloud-based storage and retrieval platform, Ocucon provides the facility to store, analyze and retrieve unlimited amounts of video surveillance footage from within the Ocucon portal.

From the outset, Ocucon’s aim has been to break new grounds in surveillance technology and revolutionise the way in which businesses and organizations record, store and access their CCTV footage. “We know that many businesses are struggling with legacy CCTV systems that are costly to replace and prevent them from utilizing industry-leading software and analytics. Ocucon Co-Founder, Gary Trotter, commented: “Many businesses and organizations don’t realize that if they record and store CCTV footage they could be subject to costly subject access requests. Tougher restrictions around personal data following the introduction of GDPR, can result in organizations needing to pixelate significant amounts of footage and the cost of outsourcing this can be extremely high. Existing video redaction software, that manually redacts images, can prove extremely costly and time intensive. Meanwhile, newer automated, cloud-based technologies have been known to be unreliable, particularly on shaky body-cam footage and are unable to exclude individual faces. With the introduction of GDPR in May of this year, the need for video redaction software will increase as organizations seek to abide by tougher restrictions on how they process and store identifying personal data, including data contained within CCTV or other security footage. As a result, the new Pixelate service is expected to be of interest to a wide range of organizations including large retailers, property management firms and large corporations, airports and transport hubs, hospitals, universities, local authorities and police forces. Images or clips of footage from CCTV footage can reveal large amounts of personal data, from credit card numbers to car number plates. Whereas existing redaction services can prove very costly or unreliable, Ocucon’s Pixelate product is the first of its kind – utilizing artificial intelligence and genuine machine learning - to provide intelligent cost effective, cloud-based video redaction that is capable of redacting other forms of data, not just faces.” Users of Pixelate will be able to upload CCTV footage to Ocucon’s secure web-based portal and download redacted files within a matter of minutes Users of Pixelate will be able to upload CCTV footage to Ocucon’s secure web-based portal and download redacted files within a matter of minutes. The system utilizes flatscreen television monitors, a mobile tablet and advanced analog HD CCTV technology Sunderland-based CCTV specialist, Hadrian Technology, have teamed up with Durham’s renowned Bells fish restaurant and takeaway to create a unique customer service solution. Table Monitoring To Improve Customer Service The pioneering system utilizes flatscreen television monitors, a mobile tablet and advanced high definition technology. With the ability to zoom in on any table at the touch of a finger, staff can easily observe the restaurant and remain instantly aware of customer needs. Overlooking Durham’s ancient market square, the listed building has a complex layout spanning three floors, meaning it was previously impossible to see all tables at once. Despite there being a total of 18 restaurant workers and seven takeaway staff, restaurant manager Julia Abbott felt more could be done to improve service. It was in conversation with Gary Trotter who runs Hadrian Technology, that the innovative solution was formed. Gary suggested that CCTV, despite being known for security, could actually be used to improve customer service. Placed at the entrance to the restaurant, a flatscreen TV featuring pinch zoom technology allows staff to zoom in on tables, checking whether plates and cups are empty, while a flatscreen TV located in the admin office and a mobile tablet which can be used off-site allow the manager to provide support to staff at all times. Hugely Beneficial To Business Julia Abbott says, “We are delighted with the CCTV system. Without this technology it’s almost impossible to monitor all tables at once. Our customer service is now more efficient than ever before and the system allows for more sittings throughout the day. It’s a huge benefit to the business, our staff and the customers simultaneously.” "The use of CCTV technology in the hospitality sector can hugely improve service levels and staff experience", says Gary Trotter, Co-founder, Hadrian Technology “It’s especially useful when a queuing customer requests a particular table, such as our most popular one overlooking the market square. Rather than running upstairs to check, our staff can now use the pinch zoom technology to give our customer an immediate answer. She said, “With staff having the freedom to view tables from afar, the dining experience is a lot more intimate too. The restaurant frequently hosts private functions, and the innovative system allows parties to feel as though they have the place to themselves.” Analog Based High Definition Camera System Hadrian Technology’s Gary Trotter says, “The use of CCTV technology in the hospitality sector can hugely improve service levels and staff experience. This system means the team can instantly see where they are required and where they are able to seat customers – they can virtually be in multiple places at once.” He said, “The revolutionary technology uses an analog based, high definition camera system known as AHD. The new cameras are the first to be able to offer crystal clear video transmission over traditional 75-3 coaxial cable for distance runs of up to 500 meters. “This means it uses old coaxial cables and converts digital camera signals, allowing them to run over previously installed CCTV networks. This solved the problem of having to rip up floor boards and hack off plaster in what is a listed building in order to find the route of previously installed cabling.” Julia added, “The benefits of the technology are endless; it has even had a positive impact on happiness levels – and not just for the customers who receive an improved service. Our staff are safe in the knowledge that their colleagues can see them at all times, so if they need extra support, they can rest assured it will be on its way, and if they are busy talking to a customer they don’t need to worry about their colleagues wondering where they are. It has gone down well with absolutely everybody involved.”
