Airbus has released the latest version of the mission-critical group communication application Tactilon Agnet, which enables police officers or firefighters to communicate securely by LTE. It is fully interoperable with Tetra and Tetrapol and allows secure and flexible communication between LTE device users and Tetra or Tetrapol terminal users. The new version offers enhanced services, such as permanent geolocalization, navigation, group positioning and user presence as well as status displays on the map for commanding officers. Ensuring Public Safety Generally, Tactilon Agnet facilitates operations of public safety agencies with standard functions, for example, exchange of pictures and videos, mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), messaging functions, and voice communication. “We have introduced a special Tactilon Agnet application variant. It runs on a tablet for field commanders of public safety who want to get the full picture of a situation. Tactilon Agnet allows them to follow each ongoing group communication,” explains Eric Davalo, Head of Strategy, Solution Portfolio and Engineering of Secure Land Communications at Airbus. “As a result, Tactilon Agnet enables missions to be carried out more efficiently.” Offering Full Critical Connectivity For Smartphones Tactilon Agnet users have all the essential information at their fingertips: they can immediately and securely send photos, data, and videos at the push of a button to a control room or colleagues. Apart from public safety, industrial, energy or transportation companies can easily incorporate this app into their Tetra or Tetrapol networks to enhance their secure group communications. Tactilon Agnet offers full critical connectivity for smartphones. It is also evolving with the introduction of the LTE quality of service (QoS) management. Its mission-critical voice capabilities, such as group or individual calls, are aligned with the release of the international telecommunications standards of the Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), dealing with MCPTT functions of future PMR networks. The application’s multimedia functions, such as mission-critical data and video over LTE, are based on the principles of 3GPP’s release 14. Tactilon Agnet’s new capabilities will be presented during the Critical Communications World 2017 exhibition at the Airbus stand C5, in Hong Kong, from 16th to 18th May, 2017.
Airbus has introduced the new Taira Tetra Server for professional mobile radio networks. This versatile server based on IP technology can replace conventional switches and operates at much lower costs. The Taira is smaller than a typical switch and works more efficiently and economically, while still providing the same high service availability that many mission- and business-critical customers around the globe expect from Airbus Tetra solutions. Furthermore, the server can be managed easily as it fits into existing IT environments. Facilitating Daily Operations “For users of mission-critical networks, Taira facilitates daily operations: the flow of information is fast and extremely reliable,” says Eric Davalo, Head of Strategy, Solution Portfolio and Engineering of Secure Land Communications at Airbus. Thanks to the virtualization of commercial off-the-shelf hardware, server capacities can be exploited in a better way. “This is expected to help Tetra be installed in complicated and narrow surroundings, for instance in the mining industry, at airports or in underground systems,” he explains. Using modern IT server technology in the framework of a Tetra network enables operators to integrate a Tetra system into their existing data centers. The Tetra network can be operated with the same processes that are used for other IT solutions and managed by the same personnel. It helps operators to reduce their operating expenses and marks the start of a new era in critical communications infrastructure. On top of its exceptionally high availability, the server from Airbus consists of standard solutions with virtualization layers. This ensures true hot standby redundancy even in extreme situations. For the first time in Asia, three Taira Tetra servers will soon be used in four metro lines of the Chinese megacity Chongqing Versatile Features Thanks to the Taira Tetra Server, mission- and business-critical users can benefit from the security, the high speed of call set-up and the versatile range of features that Airbus has been developing for its PMR customers over the past 20 years. For the first time in Asia, three Taira Tetra servers will soon be used in four metro lines of the Chinese megacity Chongqing. Airbus was assigned to install a single integrated Tetra radio communication system across the four metro lines, with three switch centers to support cross-line train dispatching, operation, and security. The system is expected to enter operation in December 2017. The Taira Tetra servers will be presented during the Critical Communications World 2017 (CCW) exhibition at the Airbus stand C5, AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong from 16 to 18 May 2017.
The Tactilon Cell offers mobile broadband services for organizations that need a communication infrastructure at very short notice Airbus Defence and Space will unveil a prototype of the new Tactilon Cell at the Critical Communications World exhibition in Amsterdam. It is a small and transportable system for running small LTE-networks during, for instance, anti-terror campaigns, large events or rescue missions. Energy Efficient Broadband Solution The compact and energy efficient broadband solution offers various mobile broadband services for security and public safety organizations that need a communication infrastructure at very short notice, especially in remote locations. It can easily be transported by one person and is suitable for cars and other vehicles. The Tactilon Cell comprises every feature of a LTE-network. Flexible LTE Network Solution “For those who are in need of a small LTE network, the Tactilon Cell is an excellent solution. It makes a difference, because it can be installed quickly, easily and flexibly in places where a communication infrastructure is not available,” says Eric Davalo, Head of Strategy, Solution Portfolio and Engineering of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defence and Space. The Tactilon Cell The cell includes terminals like the new Tactilon Dabat, a base station, LTE software and an apps server for mission-specific applications such as the Tactilon Agnet multimedia group communication. All the cell features comply with the latest standards according to the releases of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a global organization that sets international telecommunications standards. It can be integrated into a fixed LTE network. The Tactilon Cell will be presented at the Airbus and Defense and Space booth D 42 in hall 8 during the Critical Communication World exhibition in Amsterdam from May 31 to June 2, 2016.
This project will accelerate the development and implementation of secure communication in the public safety sector Airbus Defense and Space has set up an R&D consortium with French telecommunication companies and universities to develop a mission critical broadband solution for public safety organizations, such as police and rescue services. The project, called LTE4PMR (Long Term Evolution for Professional Mobile Radio), will be an accelerator in the standardization, development and implementation of the specific products and features required to meet the demanding needs for secure communication in the public safety sector. This project is partly funded by the French authorities, through the French Banque Publique d’Investissement (BPI) and the French Programmes d’Investissement d’Avenir. Secure Communication In The Public Safety Sector Substantial amount of resources will be invested over a period of 27 months. Thus, the LTE4PMR project will boost the French ecosystem for mission critical communications creating an LTE solution in line with the global initiative Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), setting the standard for mission critical broadband communications. The first pilot system of the LTE4PMR project is intended to be demonstrated to the French authorities in autumn 2016. “Airbus Defense and Space has gathered outstanding competencies and experience in the field of mission critical networks for many years. We were the first in the professional radio market when we established the first digital radio network in France more than 20 years ago,” says Olivier Koczan, Head of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defense and Space. “The LTE4PMR project, together with other on-going advanced initiatives in other countries, is the right step towards developing an LTE solution for mission critical broadband communications to maintain our leadership in the market.” Mission Critical Mobile Broadband Communications The LTE4PMR solution will offer typical PMR features, such as Mission Critical Push-To-Talk (MCPTT), complex data (MCData) and video (MCVideo) transmissions. The project will also create the technology bricks, i.e., the base station, the core network and the terminal chipset enabling the deployment of mobile broadband secure communication networks in various frequency bands. “Inspired by imagination, our engineers work on sophisticated solutions for future LTE/PMR network communication,” says Eric Davalo, Head of Strategy, Solution Portfolio and Engineering of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defense and Space. “Given the fact that we master our customers’ wishes regarding their large-scale infrastructure, we are able to invent a smart evolution towards mission critical mobile broadband communications.”
