Regula & V-Key Enhance Mobile Onboarding Security

Deepfakes, synthetic identities, and document fraud are creating new risks for mobile onboarding across banking and digital services. Regula, a global developer of identity verification solutions, has partnered with V-Key, a provider of mobile-first digital identity and app security technologies, to help organizations strengthen identity verification and authentication across mobile customer journeys in Asia-Pacific. Through the partnership, Regula’s document authentication, facial biometrics, and liveness detection — Regula Document Reader SDK and Regula Face SDK — will be integrated into V-Key ID, the company’s digital identity platform for banks, telecoms, government services, and digital businesses. Maintaining secure authentication The integration combines Regula’s technologies with V-Key’s patented Virtual Secure Element (V-OS), multi-factor authentication, and mobile app protection technologies. Together, the companies aim to help organizations onboard verified users directly inside mobile apps while maintaining secure authentication across logins, sessions, and transactions. The combined offering is designed for regulated industries with strict security, compliance, and digital onboarding requirements. Mobile security infrastructure The partnership brings together two complementary parts of the mobile identity stack. At onboarding, Regula helps organizations authenticate identity documents from around the world, perform facial biometrics and liveness checks, and detect fraud attempts involving manipulated, forged, or synthetic identities. Once a user is verified, V-Key’s mobile security infrastructure helps protect that trusted identity across future logins, transactions, and interactions inside the app through continuous authentication, adaptive threat detection, and zero-trust security controls. The combined solution is designed to help organizations: strengthen protection against AI-generated identity fraud; reduce onboarding friction and user drop-off; support eKYC and regulatory compliance requirements; maintain trusted authentication throughout the customer lifecycle. Facing growing pressure Mobile platforms have become central to digital identity interactions — and an increasingly attractive target for fraud. As digital services continue to scale across Asia-Pacific, organizations are facing growing pressure to strengthen: digital onboarding security, liveness detection, fraud prevention, continuous identity assurance, mobile authentication infrastructure. The partnership reflects a broader industry shift toward connected identity systems that combine document verification, biometrics, device trust, and authentication into a single mobile identity journey. Identity lifecycle management Regula IDV solutions deliver end-to-end document verification, biometric authentication, and identity lifecycle management. It enables organizations to prevent fraud by ensuring the integrity of every signal behind each decision. Backed by more than 30 years of forensic research, Regula maintains the world’s largest document template library with 16,000+ document templates from 254 countries and territories. Regula’s technologies are used by financial institutions, 2000+ enterprises, 80+ border control authorities, and 100+ forensic laboratories worldwide. The company was also recognized in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Identity Verification. V-Key’s Virtual Secure Element (V-OS) technology is deployed in more than 600 million mobile installations globally across banking, telecommunications, and government applications. V-Key’s technologies are certified to Common Criteria, FIPS 140-2, IMDA, and SOC 2 standards. Mobile identity ecosystems “Mobile platforms are now at the centre of identity interactions, which makes them both a key growth channel and a primary target for fraud,” said Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula. “As threats become more sophisticated — including deepfakes and synthetic identities — businesses need stronger, integrated approaches to verification and authentication. Together with V-Key, we are helping organizations build more secure and resilient mobile identity ecosystems.” “Our partnership with Regula reflects growing customer demand for stronger identity verification across digital ecosystems,” said Raymond Lee, Chief Operating Officer at V-Key. “Organizations want integrated platforms that can improve security while maintaining a seamless mobile user experience.” The integrated solution is available immediately to V-Key customers across the region.

Regula Launches Server-Side Verification Of Mobile Driver’s Licenses

Regula, a global developer of identity verification solutions, has introduced server-side reprocessing of mobile driver’s license (mDL) data in its updated Regula Document Reader SDK. This new feature helps organizations strengthen fraud prevention by validating digital IDs in a controlled backend environment rather than relying solely on user devices. The release comes as mobile IDs gain adoption across the US and other countries, while organizations face growing pressure to verify digital credentials under zero-trust security models. Identity verification Identity verification performed on user devices carries inherent risks, as these environments remain outside organizational control. Malware, rooted phones, or tampered apps can interfere with identity checks before results reach backend systems.  In addition, sensitive elements such as trust lists and cryptographic keys are more difficult to safeguard under such conditions. As a result, data collected on the user side may be compromised before reaching backend systems. Moving mDL verification into a trusted environment To mitigate these risks, Regula has added server-side verification of mDLs issued in accordance with ISO/IEC 18013-5to the latest version of its Regula Document Reader SDK. This capability enables secure reprocessing of mDL data on the backend, ensuring that critical validation steps take place in a controlled and trusted environment rather than relying solely on device-side checks. In practice, this means that data captured on a user’s device is securely transmitted and revalidated on the server using trusted public key infrastructure and signature verification mechanisms. This approach helps ensure that identity data remains intact, authentic, and resistant to manipulation throughout the verification process. To support consistent results across different document formats and issuing authorities, Regula Document Reader SDK also relies on extensive document recognition and parsing capabilities. Regula’s solution is backed by the company’s proprietary, world’s largest identity document template database, covering over 16,000 templates from 254 countries and territories. This enables accurate processing of both physical and digital IDs, including emerging formats such as mDLs. Designed for high-risk and regulated environments The new capability is designed for industries where fast, reliable driver’s license verification directly affects fraud prevention, compliance, or safety, including mobility and ride-sharing services, car rentals, travel and aviation, and age-restricted commerce. “Digital identity ecosystems are changing. Physical IDs, mobile credentials, and biometric checks increasingly operate together, which means organizations need to trust every part of the process. Server-side mDL verification helps move critical checks into a controlled environment, strengthening fraud prevention by ensuring identity decisions rely on authentic, untampered data. At the same time, it helps preserve identity signal integrity across the entire verification flow, enabling organizations to make trusted server-side decisions rather than relying solely on client-side inputs,” says Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula.

Agile Boosts Chilean Telecom IDV With Regula

Driven by Chile’s updated telecom regulations, Agile Ingeniería y Consultoría has partnered with Regula, a global developer of Identity Verification (IDV) solutions, to deploy a high-volume, high-compliance IDV system. The platform now enables the Chilean telecom sector to process more than 300,000 identity checks each month with the same document authentication accuracy used at border checkpoints, achieving a 96% conversion rate and full alignment with the country’s new requirements. Challenge Until recently, SIM activations and number portability in Chile were vulnerable to fraud due to a lack of reliable verification controls. The new regulation, introduced in early 2025, set stricter standards for verifying the identity of every user activating a phone line or prepaid SIM card. Solution To meet these requirements while keeping customer onboarding fast and frictionless, Agile integrated Regula Document Reader SDK into its identity verification platform.  Regula’s solution performs deep authenticity checks across MRZs, barcodes, RFID chips, holograms, and optically variable elements, using a liveness-centric approach to confirm the document’s physical presence and authenticity. It also cross-verifies data across all document zones to detect inconsistencies or tampering, exposing even sophisticated forgeries without slowing down the user journey. “Regula was brought in to specifically address the need to read and validate a range of identity documents that would have been very difficult for us to integrate on our own. Today, this allows us to verify and onboard individuals from anywhere in the world who have an identity document, significantly expanding our reach,” says Claudio Delgado, Co-Founder and Product Manager at Agile. Results After deploying Regula’s solution, there were several significant improvements, including: 96% customer conversion rate, even with added verification steps.300,000+ ID checks per month handled efficiently and securely. Significant reduction in fraud and SIM misuse.Full compliance with Chilean telecom Resolution No. 566/2024. Moderising technology “We’re proud to support Agile in modernising telecom identity verification in Latin America. Our technology delivers verification accuracy on par with border checkpoints, in any environment, helping organizations fight fraud with zero compromise on speed, trust, and compliance,” comments Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula.
