Vari-focal lenses from US manufacturer Rainbow have been installed at thirty Holland and Barrett stores including sites in London, Birmingham and Amsterdam.  The lens is Rainbow's 3-8mm model, which is notable in that as a day-night unit it corrects the focus shift that occurs when using IR lighting.

At the Holland and Barrett stores the lenses are operating within Rainbow's own dome camera assemblies.  The client is recording digitally using DVRs by Videoswitch with removable trays and tactile keypads.

The hard-wired systems have been implemented by Bedfordshire-based CSG UK.  A design and installation company, CSG implements comprehensive security systems covering CCTV, access control and electronic article surveillance (EAS).  The company has niche expertise in retail, leisure, hospitals and local government; an impressive client portfolio includes Woolworths, Mothercare, Legoland and Orange.

Dave Ronis, Operations Director at CSG, said: "These installations are allowing Holland and Barrett to give police high-quality CD evidence of thefts in a timely manner.  Staff at the stores feel confident about the equipment and are making optimal use of it to reduce shrinkage."

Based in Nuneaton, the Holland and Barrett Group is the UK's leading health food manufacturer and retailer, with 526 stores and directly employing over 3,000 staff.  Holland and Barrett offer consumers over 1,000 vitamins, minerals and other nutritional supplements.  The company also owns Nature's Way, a chain of 19 health stores based in the Republic of Ireland, and has expanded into continental Europe with the acquisition of 65 DeTuinen health and beauty stores in the Netherlands.
