Pentax Launches Fastest Ever 12~240 Zoom Lens

Product Profile

With everything in the transport system slowing down across Britain, the CCTV and Inspection Division of Pentax UK has launched its fastest ever 20x zoom lens.

The Super fast 12~240 zoom lens has an end to end zoom time of just 2.5 seconds and has been developed mainly to meet demands of new transport-related applications.  One of the most interested users is reported to be the Transport for London group.

The beefed-up motor in the Superfast 12~240 led Pentax to examine other components to ensure they would perform well with the enhanced zoom speed.  Rollers, spindles and even the grease used in the new lens are all new.  Additionally, the PTFE coating in the barrel now has a Nickel element to boost performance further.  Other lenses in the range that operate at a similar speed will also benefit from this latest technological advancement.

Pentax officially launched the Super fast lens at IFSEC 2003, but, with their customary thoroughness, it is still being bench-run in Japan.  To date it has exceeded 1.5 million cycles (from one focal end to the other and back again)… and counting!
