Evolv Technology has announced the deployment of its weapons detection system, Evolv Express®, at Houston's Toyota Center, the venue for the NBA's Houston Rockets.
The installation, completed earlier this month, debuted during the game against the Utah Jazz on January 20. The system is designed to screen fans entering the 18,000-seat arena efficiently, following the successful implementation at other local sports venues like the Houston Astros' and the Houston Texans' facilities.

The decision to incorporate Evolv Express follows the NBA's recent approval for the use of such technology, which allows fans to pass through the sensors at a normal pace without the need for frequent stoppages for individual security checks. This system aims to reduce the usual delays seen at venue entrances that typically rely on metal detectors and manual inspections.

Doug Hall, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Toyota Center, emphasized the partnership's goal of enhancing fan experience while prioritizing safety. "We are excited to partner with Evolv Technology to enhance our fan experience while maintaining the safety of our arena," Hall stated.
Evolv's Growing Influence in Sports
Evolv Express operates using sensor technology paired with artificial intelligence, enabling it to differentiate between ordinary items, such as cell phones, and potential threats like firearms. Jay Muelhoefer, Evolv Technology's Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted customer recommendations as a testament to the system's effectiveness, noting that nearly 50 professional sports teams in the U.S. now utilize Evolv.
Since its introduction in 2019, Evolv Express has screened over a billion individuals, establishing a significant presence in sports arenas and other venues nationwide. The Toyota Center's adoption of this technology reflects a broader trend among sports facilities in the U.S. and internationally, integrating advanced security measures as part of their safety strategies.
