John Purnell GM QPM DL has joined Interserve Security and First Security as non-executive director.

He joins at an important stage of the respective companies' growth as they look to consolidate their position within the City and expand their operations throughout the regions, according to Mike Crump, Managing Director: "John's role is to constructively challenge and contribute to the strategy of the company and work with the management to ensure that business objectives are met," he says.

"In particular he will be looking at the issue of risk management to ensure robust procedures are set and adhered to."

Purnell enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career with the police, retiring as Deputy Assistant Commissioner. He was latterly Group Director of Loss Prevention and Security for Tesco Group, reporting directly to CEO, Sir Terry Leahy. He is currently acting as the Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Harrow, and holds a non-executive role with the business risk specialist, the Inkerman group.

"It is early days," John says, "but I've made a start by getting to know the people, which is important, and I am looking forward to working with Mike and his team."
