Not all UK cities are equal when it comes to the number of CCTV cameras. While there are some places that you would expect to have more, you may be surprised at the other results.

We Sell Electrical produced an infographic, showing the distribution of CCTV cameras across different city councils in the UK.

Distribution Of CCTV Installations

Philip Elliott, We Sell Electrical's Marketing and E-commerce Manager said: “One of the most interesting things about state-owned CCTV cameras in the UK is that, when you look at the stats in the infographic, their distribution seems almost random, especially if you think about population and crime rate. Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city, only has about two thirds of the CCTV cameras that Bristol, the tenth largest city, has.”

"What I find even more interesting is that some of the cities with surprisingly low CCTV numbers, like Manchester and particularly Newcastle, consistently rank in the worst UK cities for crime. Would more CCTV cameras make them safer? It’s hard to say for sure, but you have to think that some more cameras somewhere like Newcastle could do some good.”
