Siemens Smart Infrastructure has collaborated with San Juan de Dios Hospital in Seville, Spain, to enhance the healthcare facility into a smart, sustainable asset. With buildings contributing approximately 40 percent of global carbon emissions, and healthcare institutions grappling with financial and sustainability challenges, advancing operational efficiency is vital. Siemens' deployment of AI-based digital building technology at the hospital has allowed a remarkable 35 percent reduction in operating costs, establishing a new standard for hospitals worldwide.
Siemens' AI-Powered Building Platform
The innovative solution Siemens introduced offers an integrated approach to energy and security control alongside HVAC automation, all within a singular system. San Juan de Dios Hospital, boasting a history of over 450 years, has seen a remarkable transformation with Siemens' fully digital, AI-driven Building X platform. This comprehensive solution merges energy and security management with Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) automation, streamlining operations for building managers. Projected to further reduce operating expenses by 10 percent, the technology identifies faults early and optimizes equipment use, enhancing both operational and energy efficiency.
Harnessing AI and Interoperable Platforms
Maria Jesús Pareja, Managing Director at San Juan de Dios Hospital, noted, "With Siemens' technology, we have gone beyond simple automation. We now have an intelligent system that coordinates, optimizes, and anticipates the functioning of our facilities, improving care quality and the well-being of those around us." Adding to this, Delphine Clément, Global Head of Verticals at Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings, said, "This project sets another benchmark for hospital digitalization globally. By harnessing AI and interoperable platforms, healthcare facilities can transform operational complexity into simplicity and resilience – ultimately improving care outcomes while cutting costs."
Integrates Remote Digital Services
At the Seville-based hospital, Siemens implemented a digital layer merging remote digital services to enhance fault detection and diagnostics. This system includes intrusion detection via the Siemens Siveillance Suite and the Desigo CC building management system. Key components of the Building X platform, such as Operations Manager and Energy Manager, facilitate real-time monitoring of building performance and energy usage. This setup fosters smarter decision-making, boosts operational efficiency, and ensures measurable sustainability improvements.
Digital Building Platform
Building X stands as a digital building platform supporting customers in digitizing, managing, and optimizing their building operations. It forms part of Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform aiding customers in accelerating digital transformation more efficiently, swiftly, and on a broader scale.
