Intellian has announced that its newly-released v45C antenna has been approved for operation on the Intelsat FlexMaritime network. This qualification brings together Intellian's compact and high-performance antenna with Intelsat's state-of-the-art FlexMaritime High Throughput Satellite (HTS) service, offering global connectivity solutions in a small, efficient package.
Advancements in HTS Technology
The v45C antenna has been designed to introduce VSAT technology to markets where space is limited. Traditionally, service providers have relied on antennas of at least 60cm to deliver high-throughput services due to the power demands of smaller units. However, the introduction of HTS technology combined with innovative antenna designs has enabled the use of more compact antennas. The v45C is poised to meet the needs of industries such as workboats, leisure craft, fishing boats, and small commercial or government vessels.
VSAT for Smaller Antennas
Intelsat is one of the first to utilize this capability by adding a 45cm category to its FlexMaritime HTS service. Historically, VSAT service via small antennas has been limited to specific regions to conserve power. Nonetheless, HTS satellites, with their spot beam technology, can address these limitations by providing high-power services to targeted areas. This capability supports global service while minimizing delivery costs. FlexMaritime enhances this principle by allowing multiple satellites to overlap spots in the same region, enhancing performance further.

AptusNX Antenna Management Software
Much like the successful v60E antenna released last year, the v45C incorporates technology from Intellian's advanced NX Series antennas, which are available in sizes ranging from 85cm to 150cm. These systems feature a single-cable setup and are equipped with the AptusNX antenna management software for easy commissioning and diagnostics. Until now, service providers have required antennas of 60cm or larger to deliver high-throughput services owing to the higher power demanded by smaller units, but with the advent of HTS technology teamed with innovative antenna design, the use of more compact antennas has become possible.

VSAT delivery to small antennas
Intelsat is among the first to take advantage of this capability with the addition of a 45cm category to its FlexMaritime HTS service. VSAT delivery to small antennas has traditionally been restricted to localized regions in order to conserve power, but through the use of spot beam technology, HTS satellites can overcome this limitation.
By providing high-power service to small, tightly-focused areas, frequencies can be reused across the satellite’s coverage area, supporting global service while reducing the cost of delivery. Intelsat takes this principle a step further with FlexMaritime, with multiple satellites able to overlay spots in the same area to boost performance even further.

In common with the globally successful v60E antenna launched last year, the v45C shares technology developed for Intellian’s advanced NX Series antennas. These range in size from 85cm to 150cm, with single-cable, dome-on connection and simple commissioning and diagnostics via the built-in AptusNX antenna management software.
