The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) has now announced the release of a new PKOC Explainer Video, created to offer a clear and visual overview of the Public Key Open Credential (PKOC) specification in comparison to symmetric credential options.

The video demonstrates the limitations of symmetric encryption in traditional access control credentials and explains how PKOC’s public/private key model enhances security through asymmetric verification.

PSIA specifications

As our audience for PSIA specifications grows, we aim to help more people understand what PKOC addresses,” said David Bunzel, Executive Director of the PSIA.

This video was produced to simplify a complex topic—showing how PKOC works and why asymmetric credential verification represents a meaningful step forward for the industry.”

Physical security ecosystem

PKOC is a free specification, developed to support secure, interoperable, and cost-effective credentialing within the physical security ecosystem.

This video is intended as an introductory resource for manufacturers, integrators, consultants, and end users seeking to understand the role of asymmetric encryption in modern credential systems.
