We bring you the security week that was. One of the most interesting stories this week came from Theia, who unveiled that their CCTV lenses had played an important part in this year’s FIFA world cup. We also saw the SourceSecurity.com editor’s visit to South Africa in pictures. Earlier in the week, we had news of the births of two foals captured by an innovative online surveillance system from IP eye, with the help of Axis IP cameras.

In events news, Brickcom unveiled that it will be showcasing its latest IP surveillance solutions at this year’s SecuTech Vietnam 2010. Within the corporate world, Hikvision and Italian security distributor NEXXT formed a partnership, and Access Control Technology added two Technical Support Representatives to their Technology Support team. We start the mid-week round up with news of the births of two foals. The international show jumper Andrew Mizon chose an innovative online surveillance system from IP eye to monitor his mares’ progress, and so captured the births with the help of Axis IP cameras. Also in application news, in one of the busiest and most financially significant regions of the world, the Dutch Ministry of Transport opted to use surveillance software from Optelecom-NKF to monitor traffic.

In corporate news, infinias has signed up NFS Communications, Inc. as their manufacturer’s representative for the territory of New York and northern New Jersey. Lastly, Tata Motors’ car manufacturing facility in India will incorporate the country’s first non-electrified, monitored perimeter security system. Read more news…

In today’s news round up, we begin with news from Nedap Security Management, which has secured a distribution partnership deal with Vsoon Beijing for its access control products. At the Security Industry Association, Marc Benson has been appointed as the new Sales Manager.

At this year’s National Sheriffs’ Association exhibition, G4S featured its latest security solution – a specially fortified 15-passenger transportation van. The transportation van is currently being used by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Over in the city of Moonee Valley in Melbourne, Australia, Salto’s access control technology is providing a cost-effective way to regulate entry. It’s an application news feast on today’s mid-week round-up.  In Belgium, Sony’s complete HD solution is providing high security for the newly built A&C Systems site area. Over in Cameroon, the MTN Group, the leading telecommunication service provider in Africa, received an artec technologies HDTV video surveillance system for its data centre.

Looking forward, Verint Systems announced that KFC Yum! Centre in Kentucky, USA, is implementing its IP Video Management platform.

In corporate news, HDcctv Alliance welcomes IntelliVision Technologies Corporation as a member. Lastly, at the BOMA 2010 tradeshow this week, G4S showcased its vision for new integrated security solutions. Read more news…

In the mid-week round up, we begin with news from the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours. AD Group’s Mike Newton was celebrating on the podium alongside co-drivers after coming third in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class. Milestone had a win of a different kind, as it was presented with the King Frederik IX Award of Honour for its world-class IP software solutions.

In other corporate news, G4S’s partnership with VideoCells to provide a hosted video surveillance service, proved a success. At Nedap Security Management, there is a new face: Cosimo Caraglia has been appointed Business Development Manager for Italy.

His Royal Highness the Duke of York, Special Representative UK Trade & Investment, visited the headquarters of IMS Research in Wellingborough to meet staff and tour the facility. In other corporate news, Hikvision has opened a new office in Dubai to strengthen its position in the Middle East and Africa security markets.

In Poland, there is a new partnership between Nedap Security Management and Dyskret. Together they have successfully implemented an access control system for the Centrum Vinci building.  Over in the City of Moonee Valley in Australia, Salto access control solution is helping to protect its mixed array of buildings.

The big announcement in today’s round up comes from ONVIF who have revealed that it will extend its scope to include physical access control systems.  Also in corporate news, Visionhitech will be joining other leading members of the security industry at PSA-TEC show.

In terms of predictions within the industry, IMS Research has forecast that remote video monitoring will be the fastest growing server within remote monitoring market. For those interested in healthcare market, The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has published a new guide to aid the healthcare sector in the use of access control systems.

“The week that was” is the theme for the weekly news round up today. We take a look at the some of our top stories. First up, it was all smiles for Dedicated Micros at the IFSEC Awards as they picked up the award for integrated security product.  At the Verint and Arecont stands at IFSEC it was all about high-definition technology and H.264.

There were also some big appointments in the way of Honeywell’s new VP and general manager Johnny Allia and Milestone’s new VP Sales Europe Martin Brown.
