On today’s news round-up, Axis Communications states the importance of surveillance systems in public spaces: “It is important that surveillance in public spaces becomes smarter and delivers the intended service to the community,” says Phil Doyle, Regional Director, Northern Europe, Axis Communications. At the World Expo 2010, Hikvision’s high definition (HD) CCTV cameras are monitoring 3.2 square miles of the site. The “Sold” sign goes up for Basler’s solar water inspection business as it moves to Semilab Zrt.

It’s an application news feast on today’s mid-week round-up.  In Belgium, Sony’s complete HD solution is providing high security for the newly built A&C Systems site area. Over in Cameroon, the MTN Group, the leading telecommunication service provider in Africa, received an artec technologies HDTV video surveillance system for its data centre.

Looking forward, Verint Systems announced that KFC Yum! Centre in Kentucky, USA, is implementing its IP Video Management platform.

In the mid-week round up, we begin with news from the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours. AD Group’s Mike Newton was celebrating on the podium alongside co-drivers after coming third in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class. Milestone had a win of a different kind, as it was presented with the King Frederik IX Award of Honour for its world-class IP software solutions.

In other corporate news, G4S’s partnership with VideoCells to provide a hosted video surveillance service, proved a success. At Nedap Security Management, there is a new face: Cosimo Caraglia has been appointed Business Development Manager for Italy.

Lastly, the CSO Roundtable of ASIS International invites security professionals to take part in a two-day conference to explore the risks, challenges and opportunities facing organisations doing business in the region as Brazil prepares to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. “The week that was” is the theme for the weekly news round up today. We take a look at the some of our top stories. First up, it was all smiles for Dedicated Micros at the IFSEC Awards as they picked up the award for integrated security product.  At the Verint and Arecont stands at IFSEC it was all about high-definition technology and H.264.

There were also some big appointments in the way of Honeywell’s new VP and general manager Johnny Allia and Milestone’s new VP Sales Europe Martin Brown.

On today’s round up we begin with a little bit of IFSEC post -show news.  It was all about IP at the Verint stand as it launched its new line of single- and multi-port edge devices and high-definition, H.264-powered IP cameras.  For Arecont vision HD was the key, as it introduced its new full HD mode 1080p camera.

In the corporate world of security there is a new partnership in the form of Myrasis and D-link. This new venture aims to provide integrated IP surveillance management solutions to CCTV users. As the new UK government takes shape, BSIA looks forward to working with it to support the work of security industry.

We start our Monday news round up with a selections of news items regarding upcoming tradeshows and some rather interested application articles to keep you informed.

In light of the upcoming IFSEC show, Wavesight has announced that it will be demonstrating UK designed and manufactured technology capable of delivering high bandwidth video transmission over low power, unlicensed wireless bridges.  Another show on the horizon is the ICT Security Africa Summit 2010.  Attending the show will be the likes of Kenya ICT Board, Ecobank, Toyota, MTN Uganda, Nestle and Kenya National Audit Office.

On the application news front, Siemens divulge the suitability of their integrated security solution for power plants.  Mobotix announces another successful installation of their network-based video security system at Vallé Academy of Performing Arts. And last but not least Avigilon’s HD surveillance system installed at Oklahoma’s County Sheriff’s Office saves more than $10 million annually in personnel costs.

On this fine day we start your news round up with a pre-SecuTech 2010 update. For those who will be attending the show you will be able to visit the Compro Technology stand and feast on a selection of unique 24 hours/365 days IP cameras and video solutions.  At the other big show of the “tradeshow” season – IFSEC – IndigoVision is set to demonstrate a number of new products including its HD IP cameras and ONVIF compliant video management software ‘Control Center’.

Moving on to another show – the RETAIL FRAUD conference.  Axis will be putting a spotlight on the use of surveillance solution to prevent fraud in the retail sector.  If you are interested in the issue of the moment – counter terrorism – be sure to check out the Perimeter Protection & Intrusion Detection Workshop where Dr. Clark of Navtech Radar will be doing a presentation on Security and Surveillance using Scanning Radar Technology.
